Hello guys,

I'm in my first year of college and i have realised its not the way for me. I have 10 GCSE's A*-C and a NVQ Level 2 in Enterprise. I'm doing 3 AS subject (Economics, Business Studies and Law) and planning to stay on this year to get my AS levels.

I've been looking at some apprenticeships and came accross event management. I love organising things and usually can't help but take the lead roll. I'm particulally intersted in the club and electronic dance music scene. I'd love to organise a big event or festival. Is anyone involved in this line of work that could give me some extra info?

I'm open to any other apprenticeships also but finding a decent one is so hard as most of them on government websites are for doyles. My interestest include: electronic music, business, the way things work, organising things, graphic designing, stock markets, coming up with ideas for a project, gaming etc.

Thanks!

get qualified. do what you love part-time - if you can. do what you have to until you can do what you love full-time. sorted.

Sounds like you'll enjoy vocational learning more than theoretical / academic, which is why you're not enjoying your courses.

Vocational is heading towards diplomas - but it's still early days, so an apprenticeship might be more worthwhile. I'd suggest something like this but ultimately you sound like you're intelligent enough already.

As others have said, look into doing what you love part time more and more - running a regular club night and learning how to balance the books (taking a cut from the bar etc. as payment) will be a real learning experience and probably put you on the path to running your own company.

I'd only suggest going fully headlong into education if you want to become part of a larger events management company.

write to as many companys as you can telling them what you want to do and asking if they can help you or if they run any schemes. even if they dont take apprentices they will often recommend which route to go down and will give you more ideas

i will warn you know though that for what you want to do most of those routes will be by knowing someone in the buisness or having a lot of cash.

I hate it when poeple put "etc" for things as they enjoy, its like saying "i like x, y and z....and everything else!." But these days it can be viewed as something along the lines of "an other such similiar interests s listed previously"

On topic:
I know universities teach even management but thats probally something you wouldnt enjoy if your not likeing college. Also remember you'll (probally) have to start off small, organising private parties and what not.
But if your wanting to organise music type stuff as poeple said get a job in a club and pitch ideas for themed nights (like how clubs have neon nights, faom parties, 80s etc) obviously don't get your foot in the door and the first thing you say to the manager and owner is "how about a neon night? i'll even organise it for you!"

and just realised I put etc in a list to mean "and other such things"....i might have to google the correct use of it.

edit: it does mean and the rest...okay, so my hatred now has to stop since most poeple use it correctly.

i got pwned =[

are you aware that most people at that end of the music industry are back stabbing bar stewards? i would seriously take check before i thought about pursuing a career in that field

Guessing some those Cs were in English? :p

I've done, or I am doing pretty much what you want.

I don't like learning academically, I don't find it hard, I just find it boring and dull, so I'm on a sort of apprenticeship scheme where I work for 4 days a week and go to college to do a BTEC one day a week.

I get paid a decent wage, I even get paid for the day I'm in college and I get a lot of experience on the job as I work with architects in a drawing office.
