I already have HL2, EP1 and Portal on DVD. If I buy this, I know that I can give away my (old?) copies of HL2 and EP1. What about Portal?

Yes. If you have copies registered to your steam account already then the new ones will be added as extra ones for you to gift to others.

Or maybe not as said above. I would have thouight you could though as it's essentially two copies.
