Guys,

Anyone ever had a Working Holiday Visa, and if so, how long did it take between applying online and the Visa being granted?

Secondly, they state you must make the application from outside Australia. If I was to get my parents to fill the form in whilst I was in Aus they'd notice, right?

thankyouverymuch.

I got mine about 2 months ago, think it took about a week or so to process mine, and that was with another company doing all the hard work for me, so in reality it probably only took a few days.

no idea about your second question.

Can take anywhere between a couple hours and a couple weeks really. Provided there isnt something on the app they dont like criminal record etc. I think when i applied for mine it took about 2 days for oz and 5 days for new zealand.

Edit as for the second question, I am pretty sure they stamp the visa on entry

Not to mention it's a fairly simple thing for them to compare the date of the application against the entry date on the passport...
The Aussies are pretty hot about immigration issues and have very little sense of humour in regards to people messing about with them, so at the very least getting it filled in whilst the op is actually in Aus is likely to cause problems, at the worst it could result in him getting thrown out and make it very difficult to go there again.

Hmm, cool. I've already got a tourist Visa granted. I enter next month. I won't know if I'm staying or not until I get there (women, grr) and its £90 to apply for the Working Visa, so I'd rather not if I won't need it.

Seems like it's either £90 now just in case, or fly to New Zealand, apply, then fly back...

are you going to NZ anyway?

If not then it might be worth applying for the working visa now anyway, and if you don't need it it's less costly than paying for it + flights to NZ.

So assuming I decide its not worth the faff and I just pay the 90 quid now, will the fact I've already been granted the standard 3 month tourist electronic visa thingy have any negative effect on my application?

Or is it the case that the application for a 25 year old British male with no criminal record and no health conditions is pretty much just a formality anyway?

I doubt having a tourist visa would affect it, you can't be the only one in that situation (people who have obtained a tourist visa and subsequently decide they want to work out there).

Unless you are really hard up for cash I wouldn't risk not getting it sorted in advance even if you don't need it.

Just buy the Working Visa with the money saved from suspending/cancelling your car insurance! Even if your there for 6 weeks the saving on your car will cover the unused working visa.

If your having to ask questions then maybe its not right for you. If someone said to me "hey, fancy possibly working in Aus for 6 months or so, gonna cost you £90 though" id be straight there.

Thats not really the point, just trying to work out the best option. If the best option is purchasing the Visa in advance with a risk of not 'needing' it then thats the option I shall take.

May as well just give me £90 for fun then eh? :)
