I very rarely by cd's and its been like that for years as the essential mix pretty much sorts my needs out. I can't stand the commercial cd's such as Ministry of Sound and all the others.

So, 2hrs everyweek with some of the most up to date, finest music by the worlds best dj's.

From house, to breaks to DnB, hip and electro. This show has introduced me to some great music over the years and hardly ever lets me down.

This week is Steve Lawler. Another cracking set.

Anyone else an essential listener?

Usually listen to it depending what genre it is or if it's a name I know. Don't listen to them all though, got quite a few gigs with on my PC of them.

Aye I've got a fair few on my iPod, very good source for new music!

A few favourites of mine are:
Benga, High Contrast, Rusko, Crookers, MSTRKRFT, Diplo, Deadmau5, London Elektricity.

Not legal, hence why they don't allow it from the beeb website.

KaHn
this

but A LOT of the artists put them for download on there own sites or link to a download on there myspace or whatever if they dont have a full site.

ive seen a fair few artists even put them up there without the bbc radio1 adverts and rubbish all over the top. iirc claude von stroke even put his up in 320 k/b

It's a grey area tbh.

The BBC don't seem to care, and the vast majority of artists whose tunes are played on each mix seem happy with the extra exposure. Getting a tune played on the EM is guarnteed to get it a few more hits on Beatport or whatever. And having the mix available for download on certain sites can only help the exposure.

I listened to Sasha's Maida Vale again the other day, cracking set.
I've also decided to get the Deadmau5 mix from 2008 and give it ago, its actally not that bad.
Mark Ronson's mix I enjoyed too. Radio Soulwax was a burner and Streetlife DJ's.
Love Gui Boratto mix, that guys got talent!

Some of my favourites:
DJ Shadow 2003
Danny Howells 2002 & 2007
Scratch Perverts
UNKLE
Zabiela 2004 & 2002
Infusion 2004
FSOL 1994 & 1995
Trentmoller 2006
Damian Lazarus 2006
