G1 or iPhone?

I could only give a fair comparison if I owned one or used one for a period of time. I would indeed be missing something if the iphone was so superior like some would have you believe, however I have used a couple of itouch's which were great.

Basically this is a smart phone not a dedicated media player. I am impressed with its build and plethora of features, I dont have to convince you.. more you need to realise what you want and what your realistic expectations are.

If you expect every product to be the iphone then just buy the iphone, like I mentioned before, I would own one right now if it wernt for the pap network that got the exclusive rights.

It is great, the integrated google apps and speed of execution is impressive. A large community of app makers to boot and a well built handset so far make this phone a worthy purchase/upgrade.

I must say though, a lot of people are coming from very good handsets or other smartphones which mean the leap of expectation should be considered. I came from a 5 yr old SE walkman phone, so the magic is like the dogs danglies in comparison. :D

I'm using a 1.5rom by a dude called Haykuro with the newest radio update
oh, I was looking at that build before, one question though, does that version have the msn etc built into the IM app, I was sorely disappointed that it wasn't in the UK version.

Should be here pre 1pm tomorrow, then a weekend away with the Mrs. She might not be too impressed if i'm on it all holiday!

hi did you buy via phones4u? i only got a confirmation email saying i ordered and they rang me to tell me i passed the checks but no email to say it was being delivered.

I'm considering ditching this G1 for a Magic if the battery life doesn't improve, just a bit too scared of having no physical keyboard. Had phones without them before and it's just not as good.

Yes phones4u. I got an order confirmation but then I rang to ask something else. They then told me everything had gone through and it was despatched by Special Delivery.

Heres what i would do:

Go to a Voda shop
Ask the monkey in there if they have a Magic on display ie running a demo unit
If they do then have a little play with the said unit
Make up your mind there and then whether its worth you ditching the G1

Simples.

seriously why not just root it and try a cupcake update? you can always roll it back if you don't like.

i'm starting to hate my G1 now, after the cupcake updated, charging battery can take 3 to 4 hours from 30%, i simply dont have time to charge it up.

it's big, heavy, looks odd when it's in jean pocket, sure it's handy to have real QWERTY keyboard but it's much slower to type than 1-9 button with T9 enabled.

i'm gonna buy unlocked E52 when its release sometime in the summer to replace the G1

Android OS is fantastic OS, but big let down by rubbish hardware.
