**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Arbeloa is a perfectly adequate fullback but, like you say, maybe not title-winning material. With Johnson and Insua bombing on, and Xabi and Masch (if he stays ) guarding the centre backs, we could be really strong. Just need some cover for Torres now, and not to lose our central midfielders.

Tbh i think you could do with signing another full back.

For me Aurelio and Arbeloa just don't cut it.

Is insua ready to win the leauge?

When he hasn't been injured Aurelio has really improved in the last 2 seasons. He has become more consistent and has put in some really impressive European performances.

Insua too has really improved, not just in defense but going forward he's like a bull and still so young, I reckon he'll be a key performer next season.

Personally if these two keep fit then I dont think we'll have a problem at all with the left side. Its the right side that worries me.

Good move in getting Johnson (although the price is hard to swallow) but if Arbeloa goes then we're back to square one. We need a backup if Johnson gets injured. I'm not happy with Carrahger filling in because I think he's simply not good enough in that position.

Agreed although im not overly worried about Carra having to fill in every now and then. He won't let us down defensively but we'd be limited from an attacking point of view with him at rb.

Who knows, maybe this means Darby will be involved a bit next season or that Degen actually exists.

If Insua keeps his head down he'll be on the best LB's in the Premiership in a couple of years. Watched him a lot in the reserves and he showed a lot of promise when given the chance to play in the first XI.

Dossena should be sold and hopefully that would give us extra funds for a forward. Really buzzing about Johnson though, fantastic signing. Don't really blame Chelsea for not wanting him, Boswinga is one of the best RB's in Europe, if not the best. :p

Tbh he's looked better in the first team than when he was in the reserves and he looked good in the reserves.

Hopefully the stories about Aurelio being out for months are just games by Dossena's agent because if they're true then maybe he won't be off.

18.5mil for Joohnson is a pit pricey. But the suns says it more or less 11mil as popmey owed pool £7m from crouch sale. They also mention he is on £80,000 as city put in a last min bid.

Firstly don't read the S*n and secondly, it makes no difference what Pompey owed us because they would have had to pay us that.

The fee is around £17m but I hope and expect that around £5-6m of that is in performance related add-ons. Under normal circumstances £17m is about £8-9M too much but he's English and with the weaker £ and Real splashing the cash, £13-14m is proabably the going rate for him.
