So, i've started my cutting gym/food routine. I said to myself, 'ok, no alcahol for a while' this is for me VERY hard as really enjoy my wine on weekends.

Anyway, bunch of my friends have a couple of 'gatherings' coming up the next few fridays, I told them I probably won't be drinking, and their reaction was 'WHAT THE HELL' blah blah blah.

As allot of you know, its hard to be 'on the same frame of mind' when they drinking, you really do feel a bit left out.

So, I did think about just doing something else, or go and have a few?

When any of you guys go through this period what do you tend to do? be completly strict our let your hair down every now and then.

i tend to let my hair down every now and then. i do think the 80%good 80% of the time is a good mantra to live by providing you've not got any bb competitions scheduled or anything.

although if you don't feel like it then just don't. or if you really can't just con them, order a short with tall mixer for your first drink then just have the mixer on subsequent trips. (diet if coke)

I find it very easy to go out and not drink. I love wine and I do like a tipple, but I just don't miss it or don't drink much. I think I've had 3 pints over the past 4 weeks?

Dedication, I did 49 days without alcohol, its hard but people understand after a week, its either you want to do it or you want to fit in, if they are your friends they will understand, eventually.

Since about easter time I've been at home mostly and only gone back to uni for 2 exams, in that time I have consumed absolutely no alcohol :)

I used to be the type to drink 8 pints down the pub on a normal night and I loved it, but was more of a social thing. I can honestly say now though that I do not miss it at all. I feel more alert, I sleep a lot better, I always feel fresh etc.

My friends have just accepted it and even gave me some kudos for it :) All I drink now is water and I feel great for it, its also free :D

that's quite inspiring BUT, on sundays I visit my parents for some nice home made food, AND a nice bottle of red.... now you might think just don't drink... BUT my parents are portuguese AND THATS JUST NOT NORMAL for them. lol

To be honest, I doubt that a glass of red wine at the weekend (maybe a cheeky second one) will cause any noticeable consequences in your cutting progress.

On the other hand, if you were to go out on say Monday night and have a few cheeky glasses of wine, meaning it to be just a one off, and then the same thing occurred on Thursday and Friday and then at the weekend, that would be detrimental obviously.

At the end of the day, it is up to your discretion and your commitment to achieving your goals most efficiently and effectively.

Having a couple of glasses of wine with dinner isn't such a big deal. Going out for a big "sesh" isn't going to do you any favours. To be honest I've never "got" the whole drinking thing, but that may by my cultural upbringing - I just find it easy to go out and have a good time without drinking - I'm a pretty confident person so I feel comfortable out and about even without a drink. :)

That's the way to be, and is not how I used to be. Think thats why I would get tanked up before even getting to the club :o

The past few months have taught me though that you don't need to be drunk to have a good time, and that Dutch courage isn't the way forward haha. I'm slowly teaching myself to be more confident, however, I don't want to come across arrogant or up myself.

I tend to be more outrageous sober and after I've been to the gym! :D

If the music is good, there's no stopping me ;)

I'm too old to care what people think - I have fun, and it's never done me any harm ;)

My diet is exceptionally strict. I'm not following any 'cut' mind you, I just maintain low bf%.

I enjoy a whiskey or three 2 to 3 times a week. And a big session once a month :)

Bottom line is, when you choose to differ from everyone by eating very well and considering what you put in your body, you stand out. I used to tell everyone "Im not eating/drinking this tonight". Now I don't bother, by doing so you prepare yourself for negative comment. Just don't drink, if anyone asks, say you just don't want it :)

Ultimately, people try to force booze (et all) on you not because you're wrong, but because it validates their unhealthy choices.

If the music is good, there's no stopping me ;)

This mindset has gotten me a reputation :p

Ant

If you know you have something coming up that weekend or night, work that extra harder - throw in an extra run/cycle or something. It may not be AS good as completely missing the event, but at this way you deserve it a little bit more and you still get to see your mates or whatever.

I've really seen big improvements in my training since cutting down the booze. In the past 3/4 months I've had one big session.

If you really want to achieve your cut aims as quickly as possible, I'd say bye to the booze on the most part.

TBH just tell your mates you are drinking but order diet cokes on the sly without the alcohol in if they are kicking up a fuss :P Once they are wasted they'll never notice.

When I was cutting...I used to take a shaker out with my with whey in it...when everyone was ordering alcohol I was adding water to my protein...

When I was bulking I was ordering milk....

Got a few funny looks and laughs, but I was determined to reach my goal... :)
