Hi all,

I'm wondering if I can afford to go abroad this year for our holiday, as opposed to staying in Britain.

The whole idea of holidaying abroad scares the bejesus out of me though, as I will be taking my girlfriend and my two step kids.

I've been abroad myself before but that was with my mum and dad various times and also once on a lad's holiday when it was a package deal so everything was basically paid for anyway.

What I really need to find out is how much, roughly, this is all going to cost me and then decide whether I can afford it or not.

I know it's a bit of a cliche but I am looking at Spain as I've heard it is one of the cheaper places to go to.

I am the only one of us who has a passport. My girlfriend has never been abroad before so she will need one, as well as both of the kids.

Also I like the idea of staying in a villa over a hotel, I've stayed in villas before and they can be very nice.

So, if I were to go on Holiday sometime during August for one week and somewhere like Spain or Menorca etc. (I know its peak season) how much money would I need for the following..

Passports
Food
Insurance
Airplane Tickets
Accommodation ...(I've been looking at villas for around £300 pw) which seems very reasonable)
Spending money ...most days we'd probably be at the beach and just walking around museums etc and seeing the sights.

I'm not one for spending silly amounts of money like Universal Studios families :)

I guess renting a villa for around £300 for the week is the easy part. The rest, especially plane flights, I have no idea about.

Please help if you can advise me!

I've never been out the house, I didn't know how much these things are, just heard of the credit crunch and thought that was a good price.

Hmm, i would think costs as below. I recommend Majorca if your budget can stretch to a bit more than £300pw, try £500.

Passports - Assuming you all have one with at least 6 months validity at date of return

Flights - I would say about £200 all together. EasyJet.com or a price comparison site = www.skyscanner.net

Insurance - About £8 per person, might be able to get a Family deal.

Accomodation - £500 for a villa for a week

Spending Money - Take about 300-350EUR or more if you can afford

Car Hire - £150 if needed

So i would say it would cost a little over £1200.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.
