Hi guys, I want to get in on this while the preorder offers are still on. Can anyone give me, or point me to, a breakdown of which has what features?

I notice the pro version has XP compatibility mode. Is this the same as in the beta 7100 ultimate version where u right click on an application and run it in a certain compatibility mode? I would say that's essential and should be on all of the W7 products!!

Anyway, just need some help deciding whether i need to shell out £50 or £90 (will need copies for my parents and bro too  so maybe can get away with one of us having the pro and the other two having home versions).

Assume there's no real need for the Ultimate version on a home computer?

TIA

No, it's basically running the app inside a Virtual PC.

It will have the compatibility mode you mentioned (the same one Vista has), Pro just has the ability to run XP applications natively in a virtual install of XP. Only useful if you have specific applications that demand XP to run.

After having done a bit of searching MS is rumoured to have announced of a "Family Pack" version of Windows 7 allowing install on up to 3 machines in the same household, anyone know any more about this?

is the "home" version 32 bit or 64 bit ?

would the home edition support my 8gb of RAM ?

If you buy it retail (not OEM) which all the current ones are afaik, then you get 32bit and 64bit in the box so you can choose which to install.

If you install 64bit it will be able to use your 8GB of RAM.

Just to confirm what bsoltan has said. The Windows 7 E editions available in Europe are all full retail licenses which means that you will be able to move Windows 7 from one machine to another providing you first remove the copy from the original system. The Windows 7 box should also include both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

If you would like the system to be able to address more than 2GB of RAM, in defiantly, then you will need to install the 64-bit version. Windows 7 Home Premium supports up to 16GB while the Professional edition supports up to 192GB of RAM.

Just out of interest can you not just download VirtualBox and do the same thing?

It's damn stupid damn EU!!

Whats next? EU be telling Microsoft to remove every application you get free because other companys have similar products! All they are doing is crippling customers benefits.

Quite amusing now that the £ is weak against the Euro, the Foriegners will think twice before flooding into the UK earning £ another thing I hate about the EU. ;)

As a customer we should have the freedom of choice to buy a product with Internet Explorer & Windows Media Player included, who the ^$^$$% do the EU think they are taking away are freedom of choice!

   Screw the EU!
