HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

I wouldn't always trust what the signal shows, as mine shows bad signal but the call quality is perfect. I have never been able to make calls in my living room but with my htc its perfect.

If you have a bad signal and its affecting calls then thats not good, but I wouldn't always trust what a few graphical bars show.

I cant even get GPRS at home or at work whereas with my N95 I can and that really annoys me. Richdog I'm within 7 days so tomorrow I'm sending it back, shame as I really like the phone :(

The signal quality seems fine to me. Most of the time I have 3-5 bars and a HSDPA signal, if anything I'm finding the signal better than the N95 8Gb the Hero replaced.

Just realised my despatch email from Orange completely omitted my tracking info so I can't track it :(

Mine has arrived :D It's a beautiful phone and a lot heavier than i expected, just setting it up for my first bit of android goodness.

After looking at this, the new iPhone and the n97 i think i'm really swaying towards the Hero. Does anyone know what are the best deals out there?

Only the first 12 months will be £30 mate, the "£10 discount" only lasts as long as the shortest contract available, i.e. 12 months.

It's arrived! No extra comments on top of it being heavier than I was expecting (but it's a nice weight).

What's the standard size SD card people are getting packaged with these?

Mine came with a 2gb card too.

Can anyone recommend a good free tool to convert divx/xvid files to mp4 format for playback on the Hero and I assume reduce the resolution too to the Hero's maximum res thus reducing the file size of the converted movie?

Thanks

Russ

What are peoples opinion on this phone then? I should hopefully get mine tomorrow, but don't know whether or not to keep it, or sell it and go for the iphone 3gs.

This dilema ended when I switched the hero on and had a little go. This phone is fantastic, loving everything about the hero. Being able to link my contacts list to facebook is a great idea, gives me any updates from there straight to my phone. Texting is also the best I've used from any touch screen phone. I do own an Ipod touch and would say the keyboard on the hero is every bit as good as the ipod, maybe even a little better. The interface is very slick, I haven't noticed any stuttering or the UI slowing down. I've barely scratched the surface of what the phone can do. If anyone is thinking about one of these I would strongly advise trying it out, especially as an iphone alternative.

So I decided to have the best of both worlds, keep both the hero and the ipod touch and I think I made the right choice :)

I love mine, it's my first venture into touch screen and have no complaints. The whole facebook/twitter/gmail integration is great and Copilot 8 Satnav is available for just £30 now for full UK mapping and speed cameras, not subscription based either!

I can't seem to log into the android market. I've got a google account set up, but when i go to sign in it comes up with the service may be temporarily unavailable or sim card may not be provisioned for data services. I've phoned up O2 and they say I need to get in touch with carphone warehouse (mobiles.co.uk) to see if they have any ideas. Anybody got any ideas?

Are we supposed to charge for 3 hours, completely run the battery down then do a couple of longer over night charges, I read somewhere that these batteries have weird personalities :p
