There are a lot more than 9,300 users, those are just the ones who have logged in during the past few days/week or something similar.
From memory user numbers are unique, but the displayed members count only includes those who have been fully registered (so any who don't get the activation email, or are rejected don't count towards that total), whilst "active users" is those who have logged in/posted in a set period.
Hence there can be 50k registered users, but user ID's can be considerably higher (although it does seem an awfully high number of partially registered users if that's the case).

This'll probably start people looking at the first few sign-ups and seeing how many they know, I can see Acidhell2, codec, crunchee and gog have done that
