Are you going buy one ATI new 5 series or wait to see what Nvidia releases ??

I'll be upgrading after christmas so I'll be buying whatever is the best medium/high end bang for the buck, I'm not really an evangelist for either brand.

Get it before 2010 people, VAT goes from 15% back to 17.5% EVERY LITTLE POUND SAVED COUNTS IN LONG RUN

It will be interesting to see whether the retailers that didn't reduce to 15% implement an increase - I'm sure they will.

I'm particularly interested in GAME who published the reason why they weren't passing on the VAT decrease. They said that "it would result in odd prices rather than the usual neat £X.99 and this would confuse the customers". As an increase will also lead to 'odd prices' their own argument says they'll be taking the VAT hit themselves - yeah, I bet.

Cheers,

Nigel

I'm waiting... my current 260GTX SLI powers through anything out atm... so until that changes I won't be replacing them...

When it does I'll be looking at what suits my needs best - as I prefer nVidia I hope they have some decent cards out by then - but I'm not so deluded as to buy a half baked "DX10.1" rehash of the 200 series if its going to be crippled in the titles I'm going to be playing.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's less than £300-350 at launch, even if it's only to separate the enthusiastic early adopters from their cash. :-)

Of course if you're planning to enter the world of multi-monitor gaming you can subtract the notional cost of a Triplehead unit (about £220!) making it a relatively cheap card, given the overall package.
if the 5870 is £300-350 i won't get one..

i thought i heard the 5870 will be 399$ which is around £275.31 includeing vat, and 5850 will be 299$ which is around £206.31 ncludeing vat,

I'd be completely unsuprised to see the 5870 ~£300 on launch and dropping to £260-280 once the initial dust settles... would be nice obviously if they were cheaper.

I'm happy enough with my 4870X2. After getting price gauged last time, I am more than happy to bide my time to see what NV come up with, the winner getting the spoils.

Probably going to stick with what l have know and wait for the refresh, early next year or wait and see what Nvidia will release.

I doubt I will purchase one, my card is very powerful and handles almost all games with ease. Unless the 5000 series is a significant jump and there are games that actually will make use of the new tech in the near future that I happen to like then maybe but probably not. I'll more than likely get a new cpu since this damn thing just won't do as its told.

He's a troll.

No he isn't

I'm sure he isn't being entirely serious, all he's saying is that it'll take a lot for him to go back to nVidia, which is a fair claim as countless people are very unhappy with nVidia lately, with very valid reasons.

£300+ for a 5870?! That's way to much, definitely won't be an early adopter
If the 5870 is £300+ then i most likely just buy one the asus GTX 285 £199 or a Sparkle gtx 275 (£130) cards to get me by for now..

Or hope to see a secondhand 285 come up in the MM...
