District 9 review...it's looking good... **SPOILERS**

The guy is south african, so i think it would just be your impression of a south african accent might be mistaken.

My wife said his accent kept changing and I also pointed out that he was actually a South African, playing a South African in South Africa.

She also said the film was stupid and if the aliens ate the bad man at the end why didn't they just eat all the humans in the first place.

If we weren't so far from home, I'd have made her walk.
 
Depsite being the one to put up this thread and wanting to see this for months and months I only finally watched this last night and it was fantastic, some of the best sci-fi in years. I too laughed in certain parts, mainly when they were doing the eviction rounds with the aliens and the different replies they'd get.

"Is this your house"
"No"
"Shame, you can't have this cat food then"
"yes, yes, it's my house"

Great film, can't wait for District10. 8/10 for me.

good mix of everything, comdedy, action etc and just generally seemed fresh yet hit most of the Scifi generic conventions

Thats what I said which resulted in a "Well it was still a bit silly".

The comments on apartheid and segragation went so far over her head she'd have to catch a plane, poor lass.

She then commented on the way home that she'd like to watch Inglorius ********!

As for D9 I'm tempted to go watch it again, I really liked it.
 
Probably the best film I've seen this year, for reasons people have already explained.

Also, if they ever make a Half-life movie, I hope it's the same director and production crew are behind it.
 
Saw this last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can see why some people wouldn't like it, but I loved it, and as said above, it's got just the right amount of everything, it's fresh and original and typical sci fi all at the same time.
 
I enjoyed it, not sure if i'd every describe it as a powerful film.

But overall entertaining and with a bit of depth to it = trumps most modern hollywood films.
