Well, not very new really even to me. I've obtained the car underneath from my Dad due to him having bought himself a convertible last year, and can't afford to keep both running. ;)

147k miles
Bodywork is in decent nick for a 1996 car, but the usual wear and tear.
Full service history, part Saab Dealer part Saab specialist.
Has a Stainless steel Sports Cat + Cat back system from Jetex (sounds mint)
Also has a Rear anti-sway bar to support the anti-roll bar due to the age + size of the car from Abbott Racing.

No more mods planned, partially due to insurance cost as I'm only 23, and partially because my last car was a 1.6 Focus and i'm still struggling to come to terms with the amount of power it already has! ;)

I'm just interested to see what people think, and if anyone has any experiences with them to share. My dad's been a bit of a Saab nut since he won one in 85 from The Observer and it's carried on with me, mainly because of the turbo :D

awesome! my dad went through about 5 900 and 9000 turbos when i was a kid.
great cars and they are cavernous. we never had an aero though, jealous :(

200bhp according to Parkers, and FWD yes. Pretty nifty!

As standard the Aero produced 225BHP FWD when they were made, being as the car has done 150k miles i doubt it will be that now, probably 210 with the exhaust :) It certainley torque steers with the foot down ;)

Engine wise with the 9-5, i'd heard the early 9-5's had a problem with a part on the oil system, plastic dodgy fitting that caused issues early on, but other than that they're good engines, which has always been one of Saab's best qualities. Seen a fair few 9000s with 250k+ miles on, one with 500k on.

The wheels are Carlsson wheels (off the 900 or 9000 Carlsson models) as far as I'm aware, my dad got them with a Classic 900 in a bit of a state and had them refurbed before putting them on the Aero. Make the car look a fair bit better than the original Aero alloys. They are a wierd size at 16" but not to worry! Another bad point is they're not usable on the newer Saab's as they're only a 4 hole fit :(

It certainley shifts, still getting used to a turbo car, have hit the overboost wall a few times when the lead boot comes out but seem to be getting a hang of it now. Wheelspinning in first and 2nd gear has happened also.

Got one question for someone whom knows about turbo cars, was talking with a knowledgeable lad from work, whom has a Celica GT4 that has had a fair few bits done to it, including a different turbo i believe.
Anyhow, I was saying how I'd hit the overboost protection a couple of times, thought I was putting my foot down too hard too fast. He seemed to think that perhaps the boost wasn't setup right due to the new exhaust, and that it might be giving too much to the engine/turbo and causing it to hit the limit too quickly.
Has anyone heard of something like this before? Me and my dad aren't too upto speed on that side of things, the exhaust was put on by the previous owner so we don't know exactly if anything was sorted, or needed to be changed.

I just hope the tyres don't wear out too much, should be interesting finding some in the size. Hopefully I'll get something a bit better than is currently on, has Pirelli P6000s on all 4 corners atm, I've experienced a fair bit of understeer with them so far, and i had a crapload of it with P6000s on my Focus!:(

Same - my dad had several 9000s, always loved them. Never had an Aero but he had one of the Anniversary special editions :)

ooh, shiny :D

One thing I forgot about the wheels, they're rare as rocking horse waste. One of the blokes in the Saab Owner's club offered him a whole car to swop for them (albeit only a Classic 900 LPT)

A friend at work has one of these, he's turned it into a monster.

Silly silly power, when it's finished...

thats the new car my dad has (not the exact one, but the 9-3 Viggen Convertible in that blue) and thats even quicker than the 9000 :D

Mental note i need to check the Air-Filter see if they put a replacement in, as that could improve the sound a bit more.

Anyone with any Turbo knowledge appeared yet? If so, read Post #10 please :)

the viggen is awesome too, even more jealous :(
but the 9-3 cabrio's chassis is terrible, and the scuttle shake with the roof down is rather embarrassing. i'd probably live with it though :D

P6000s are rubbish, change them asap if you don't want to understeer into a hedge :p

ah cool, i remember when those came out, i think only 1 or 2 years before they stopped production. they had the aeroplane embossed in the leather seats :)

we just had the 'normal' 185bhp turbos. one of them ended up in a field though, and it was replaced with a purple one :o

My dad's spent a fair amount of money on the viggen, replaced the suspension with some Koni coilovers ( i think, he took it to Abbott Racing) to help the handling, which it has drastically. He also bought a chassis brace that fits under the front end of the car to provide some rigidity which also helped. There is still a bit there but it's miles better than it was. The annoying thing is my dad still only pays £450 to insure that even with the full suspension setup and the chassis support :(
