The 5850 will be about 20% faster, 5870 will be ~35% faster. Personally I never upgrade unless I get at least double performance but everyone is different.

You will see about 30-50% more performance in most games and the ability to use max AA/AF without taking much of a performance hit. At idle these cards consume only 26 watts meaning lower temps and lower electricity bill,, even at full load these cards don't use much more power than the previous generation yet perform a lot better, DX11 support as well.

il be upgrading from a 4850 to 5850 cf, only another 100 quid for a big boost.
but for the 4890 upgrade if you have the cash and wanna play dx11 games or just higher fps then go for the 5850/70

Would I notice anything in gameplay??

I mean the fps shouldnt be a lot different I would have thought would they?

What difference would I see in the DX11, come to think of it what games are there at the moment that are DX11??

Thanks for any input guys

Depends on the res you use, as for me, a 5850 isnt worth it at mine (1680x1050), as its mostly only 8 frames faster than my 4870.

Yea my Dell supports 1920x1200 and i usually play the games a little lower than that...

So its not really worth the upgrade then... I mean i'de have to sell my card and would only probably get about £80 or a little more if im lucky and then ide have to spend nearly another £150-200...

Why wouldn't you play games at 1920x1200?

Looking at some of the benchies now released I was under the impression that the 5850 is considerably faster than the 4870 at 1680 x 1050, far more than only 8 frames per second.

It is a lot faster, I'm not sure where the 8 frames comes from.

Maybe it's in a specific game loadsa plays the most or something.
