When you hit an animal..

Seems a harsh post. Would like to see you go and inform poor Mrs Jenkins across the road, that after having run over the family pet she is in some way liable for any dents/scratches to your car.

n

If she doesn't like it then maybe she should be more careful about what her pets are up to.

Maybe I'm overly harsh but the complete lack of responsibility shown by cat owners really does **** me off. If I had a dog that wandered the streets, pooped in everyones garden, scratched the hell out of peoples cars, chewed through the arials of the neighbours cars.... then I'd expect to be held accountable.

I've never actually hit a domestic pet. Seeing as they are generally found in residential areas there is not normally much of an excuse for doing so. Of course if a cat tears out into the road in an NSL area it's a bit different.

I've hit sheep, badgers, hare etc when I lived in Wales though.

A hare did this to my Mondeo:

And a sheep did this to my 205:

Yeah try cutting grass for the council, strimming, cat **** all over you all day grrrr!

You cannot possibly compare dogs and cats. Cats are not fully domesticated animals and with the exception of a few thoroughbreds can't really be kept in a contained environment like a dog can.

If I hit an animal with a car, the welfare of the animal or the emotions that someone would experience.....would not be the first things to go through my mind.

Animals are incredibly dangerous and damaging things, and my thoughts would be on that line.

You left it with a plastic bag? What for? In case it wants to suffocate itself? Plastic bags can take 20 years to degrade. Dead animals..................much sooner

:p

funny this post should come up, hit a largish bird earlier today :(

Was heading down a nice straight humpy road, obviously got a little carried away and was near a tonne when it popped out from the left hand side. Couple of tenths later and I was on it. Kinda glad i was going fairly quick as the lift the car had from going over one of the humps made the bird go straight under, otherwise could have done some damage! Not a mark on the car,

Reminds me of when our elderly cat got killed. Had a habit of walking in the middle of the road on the white lines. A straight B-road so not so much a problem. My brother said he saw the car coming and he/she deliberately pulled across to kill the cat. Shame.

Almost hit a horse and rider once. The local hunt were out and this idiot was in the middle of a fast A-road, hidden by a corner.

Me and my old man had to put a kitten of all things out of its misery once after it was hit by a car, miracle it was still alive but it was far beyond saving... a little girl wailing her head off in the background didn't help, we had to take it out of view to do the deed.

As for ownership, no collar or anything and ****** if Im messing around with a cat corpse getting it checked for a chip! dead and buried in under the front lawn.

To be honest it did stick in my mind for a bit after it happened, one of the main reasons was the way in which the thing was ended, we were repaving the driveway at the time and a cornish shovel was the closest thing to hand

Nasty times :(

A deer did rather more damage to my friends car than he did to it. He said it ran off without really stopping meanwhile the lights front bumper wings and one door were smacked up on his car!

I think you have to report it if you hit a large animal but even with a small one you should go back and check. The only thing I have hit personally was a baby rabbit that ran out but then changed direction when he had nearly made it. I stopped but could not see it after!

Id imagine its surprising with wild animals, the amount of pain they would take before not running off, I wouldn't be surprised if said deer ran off fuelled by adrenaline with a punctured lung or fatal internal bleeding

Wild animals will keep on moving unless physically incapable. Only humans are weird enough to be comfortable in hanging round whatever wounded them.

It's hardly natural to stop and go AAAARGH MY LEG when a fox jumps a rabbit now is it.

Humans do that even if not even touched *coff* divers *coff*

Well humans stick around and wait for others to help, we are lazy :D

Wild animals... well they just run as far away from danger as they can then lick their wounds and rest.

I must admit I ran over a Rat once, it ran out in front but I did have to adjust in order to splat it... was proud of the accuracy :D (probably more luck than judgement)

oh and there was a bad time when I hit a rabbit on a narrow country lane with my spare wheel, no room to swerve either side of it, picked straight over the top "boof" inspected my blood covered spare later the next day...

Hit a rabbit once doing 120mph (not in the UK, obviously) at night. No time to react, just saw the pair of eyes a fraction of a second before there was a thump and a very startled looking rabbit shooting upwards in front of me, never saw it come down. Only damage to my car was I lost the front numberplate, fortunately it was one of the Jap style ones that hangs in front of the grille and was only held by sticky pads so it came off easily enough and kept the rabbit out of my radiator.

Went back for a look and there was this awesome line of intestinal piping lying in a line down the road from where the rabbit had burst and they'd fallen out as it flew. I never realised just how long the intestines were. Then about 50 metres down the road from where the intestines finished were the remains of the rabbit.

No bloody numberplate though :(

I knocked on 2 or 3 doors when my friend hit a cat that ran out in front of him.

It didnt kill it but i think it mkay have broken its ribs because they didnt feel too strong

I'd only stop to ascertain the damage. If it happened to be a pet and noticed a collar, I may ring the owner if it has a number, but I'd be more irritated at the damage to the car/bike than hitting the animal if I'm honest.

I've hit quite a few birds both on the bike and in the car. Hit a few hares too - nothing very big though. It's just one of those things unfortunately.

**** happens. :p

I'd feel bad for hitting an animal, but if it literally jumped out from behind a tree...

Biggest I've hit was a rabbit, was just a bump under the 195/15's. :/ Some splatter. When I was young in the car with my mum driving up to aberdeen a deer ran across a four lane motorway dancing over several cars including our bonnet, no idea of the speed but everyone was going pretty quick. Was quite amazing to see.
