Hi, i bought a sapphire 5850 on day of release as part of a new build, ive finally got round to fixing it all up today, tried a few 3D mark tests and it hangs (drive crashes) after a minute or so.

Any ideas why?

also what do you use to overclock/set fan speeds etc, always used RivaTuner on nvidia cards - this is my first ati.

Cheers

Q9550 (currently stock speed)
Sapphire 5850
G.Skill RipJaw DDR3 (i manually set to 8-8-8-24-2T)
Windows 7 Ultimate (still the RC until i order home on monday)
Gigabyte GA-EP45T Extreme

CCC looks pants, im sure if i can set the fan speed higher it might stop the driver freezing - maybe its overheating now

ok cheers..

ps, is it ok to overclock in the CCC, i remember nvidia NTune was not that good hence the use of RivaTuner

Uhmm, unless CCC has radically changed there should be a panel like this one where you can do just that.

My control is on auto but you can enable overdrive and manual fan setting to change it to what you want.

mine does that sometimes. also when watching tv sometimes the whole goes a colour like sometimes red or yellow or blue, for about 40 seconds then the screen comes back with a message saying the ati driver has stoped working, and the right side of the screen goes weird for about 20 seconds then comes back normal..

yup, although ive only tested in 3D mark, im going to install a game and try it.

3D mark test lasted abit longer with the fan higher, but dammit the fans on these 5 series are loud, i set it to 40% - any higher will drive me mad :o

now the problem is i don't know if its fault or a driver issue.. because yours doing the same.

it only happens sometimes. e.g 1 time today.

Getting the power it wants?

My 4890 was misbehaving because I had it on a cable with two case fans.

Shouldn't really have been a problem but that kept causing the motherboard to fail to acknowledge the card during POST and since there is no onboard graphics, that's where startup stopped.

I swapped it to a dedicated cable and that's solved the problem *fingers crossed*

I just tried it in Crysis Warhead, all the FMV was perfect, then after 15 seconds actual gameplay it crashed to desktop with driver stop error.

im going to see if there are any newer drivers, might also flash my bios to latest...

well flashed bios to latest, downloaded latest graphics drivers, 3D mark crashes, crysis crashes, everything game related crashes !!!

ive always been loyal to nvidia (dont call me fanboy!) - thought i would give ati a chance and what a load of rubbish this card is, my cpu and ram score something like 7.9 in windows experience, this 5850 only scores 2.0, what the heck is wrong with this????

Windows talks a load of garbage, ignore it.

The rest of it is just a problem between the card and what you have. Or just the card. Could be faulty for example.

im going to overclock my cpu see if that helps any bottlenecking (which is mad because how could it with a q9550?!)

if that does not work, im going to try and downclock the memory or soemthing (why should i have to?!)

if nothing still works, overclockers are going to have to issue me with a rma.

thanks anyway
