I have a E46 320D Touring with climate control and my heater blower has stopped working , the car was parked up for one week and was fine prior to that .

All fuses have been checked and I can feel a temprature change when driving a long if i set it using the climate control but absolutley no blow.

I find it difficult but not unbeliveable to expect the heater blower to pack up and stop working ( never happened to me in 23 years of car ownership ) so I am maybe expecting something else .

The ironic thing as well is I chose not to renew my BMW warranty that expired on the 31ST of October , when did the problem occur ? YOu geussed it last Sunday the 1ST

Many thanks in advance if you can offer some help .

Sounds like you need a new heater resistor. IIRC it's located in the back left of the driver's footwell near the clutch pedal. You'll probably have to peel some carpet back to get to it, prepare for a pain in the butt job of working upside down.

Same thing happened in my other half's E46, one day the battery was completely drained then after a charge and a start up the heaters wouldn't come on. Apparently they tend to blow and stay open, leaving the heaters on after you turn the ignition off.

The new part is revised, and shouldn't die like the earlier model. It's also a bit smaller as well, meaning it's easier to get back in situ!

Yes it's a common problem - search for 'hedgehog' on some BMW forums.

Bear in mind that most of the guides are written for Americans so if it says drivers side it means passenger side so check first whether the guide is for LHD or RHD cars or you'll be on a wild goose chase on the wrong side of the car.

The heater resistor itself tends to cause erratic blower control rather than just no blower at all. When I had exactly the same problem as you it turned out to be the heater blower motor not the resistor.

The resistor is cheap though so its worth it as a first step.

I have just orderd the resistor .

How did you get the blower sorted ? What sort of cost could I be looking at ?

Blower control stopped working = resistor blown, erratic blower = blower motor IMO.

OP said he'd lost total control which is the same as my other half's problem (in more ways than one but that's another story) which we cured with the hedgehog. There's a good thread on E46Fanatics btw, just remember Wicksta's advice on the side it's on. Like I said, you can get access to it from the driver's footwell.
