Butter/Marg with your Jam on toast?

Toast and butter, or toast and jam. Mixing them is a waste of butter!

How very dare you sir! Toast with just Jam is sacrilege

Hi all.

Curious after having a argument with a friend at sixth form.... do you people have your jam on toast with marg or butter, or without?

I have it without and see it as a little bit wierd to put butter under another spread-like substance!

Want to settle this, so help me out OcUK.

The taste is sublime with both.

You first bite into the crispy toasted bread surface then reach the jam and it oozes around in your mouth with strawberry goodness but then the soft buttery awesomeness mixes into the jam a smidge and at this point it's a party in your mouth.

With, of course! And the bread must be cold first, to avoid getting soggy butter-bread instead of actual toast

Good quality organic butter and a splodge of home made jam.

Because the butter acts as a waterproof layer so that the bread doesn't soak the moisture out of the jam and go soggy.

As well as waterproofing which people have already said. High fat substances does a number of other things which improves texture and taste.
