hi all i have a radeon 4890 xfx graphics card,
my temps are 70`c at idle and over 100`c while in games this is with auto fan being used.
if i use the manual fan in catalyst im getting 52`c at idle and about 90`c in games
but with the the fan set at manual and at 100% its very loud but is cooler. what do you recommend.should i put up with the noise and have cooler temps or do i have a quieter
fan and have higher temps, is 100`c too high? im wondering if i should buy a graphics cooler fan
but dont wanna jump in if im fine with what i have.

what graphic coolers do you recommend also please.
thanks for the help

I've got the same card as you, my temps @ idle are 37-44 :S
Is anything obstructing the cards airflow?
Does your case have good airflow?

Your temps are high but I think they are within safe levels (anyone confirm or deny?)

GPUs can take higher temps than CPUs, 100 is high but won't break your card, damage starts happening around 120 and above.

have you checked for dust build up in the cooler?? that temp sounds awfully high. If its all clean id suggest reseating the heatsink, clean off the old gloop and pop on a small amount of good thermal paste like acrtic silver 5/mx-2/mx-3 etc.

hi thanks for the advice think i will try and add new thermal paste and see what happens i have artic silver , my case is very clean its cleaned constantly, i have the xfx sound card and that sits very close to the graphics card in the pci slot, that may be stopping airflow getting to graphics card.

reiyushin was wondering what your fan speed reads in your catalys and do you use auto fan or manual???

im idle at 72 with auto fan activated and my fan speed is 65%.

those temps are way to high, a standard cooler in a reasonably well cooled case should be high 40 s. my old cheapn nasty case would idle at 50*c, max under load about80*-85*c
i just switched to a case with good air flow, antec 300, and also changed my card cooler to a vortexx and now idles less than 40* , max about 70*c ish
