Do you think all these steam & EA deals will help to bring PC gaming back ??

I'm not sure they will, as console shoppers don't tend toshop around as much as one might think, many still 'shop' rather than immediately check the internet.
I think they will deepen the libraires of already existing PC Gamers, thats a given.

Yes but all these deals are counteracted by the fact that we have to pay €10,000 for a graphics card :o

/sarcasm

Good deals like this certainly aren't a bad thing, at least my wallet seems to think so anyways, and it certainly makes life easier with regards to disk management and ease of use. Of course, I doubt it will be long before consoles start adopting a download service for their new release games.

IMO PC gaming is fine.

Currently there are 2,189,100 people logged onto steam.
Hardly a dying breed!

Not really. People aren't likely to upgrade their systems to be gaming-spec just to take advantage of a few cheap deals.

Do you realise that the average 'gaming spec' is currently:

2.5ghz Dual Core
Nvidia 8800
2GB Ram
XP- x86

This is according to the 'average system' on the steam user survey..

Most PCs bought in the last 4 years could easily play the majority of games on the market. Remember not everyone plays on 1080p panels.

Also don't forget that half the games being promoted on the steam offers are from the last 5 years or so and hardly require an amazing rig.

Steam is a survey done on current gamers pcs, he was making the point about aload of people who dont game etc on pc. I know aload of people that have ditched their proper rigs and are using laptops now and 360s.. They definately cant play these games!

Half the games in the current top seller list would run happily on a laptop...

The OPs question is related to the spate of advertised games, not the most graphically demanding new releases.

Like I said before. Only a handful of games *need* an awesome gaming rig. Most games run happily on laptops and old systems.

Now my media centre is hardly a gaming pc.. but I just turned it into one by buying Gratuitous Space Battles ;-)

How many other people with old systems or laptops and a current gen console may be tempted back to the pc to play some of these cheap adventure games, or old school strategies.. I'm betting a fair few.

PC gaming is dead?! When did this happen?

Christ this thread is so so boring. It turns up every week, the same faces argue, i make this same comment, it dies only to be replaced next week.
