Average dress size of a "healthy" woman

8-12 is what I would prefer, would be happy with 16 depending on the girl but any more than that and I wouldn't be physically attracted.

And it depends on the shape of the woman, some people put weight on in different areas, some women look sexy with it, some look fat.

As Raymond and some others have mentioned, race and build come in to it quite significantly.

My wife is Chinese and generally buys XS size clothes here which are around size 8 I would guess in the UK. She is slender and has a slim build and looks great IMO. She also gets either very good or excellent ratings on her yearly medicals much to my dismay considering all the junk she eats.

On Western ladies I have dated I prefer a size 12. 10 generally looks great with clothes on, bit boney with them off. 14+ looks curvy but I have no desire to 'ride the wave'.

There are of course exceptions with girls of bigger builds without the ripples and girls who are just super pettite.

I don't subscribe to the 'doesn't matter what size you are as long as your happy' brigade. Size does not matter if you are fit and healthy but too many people seem to believe that if someone is fat but happy then good for them. Even excluding the extra medical care to be paid for by the NHS, you would have thought that extending their lives so they can spend it with their families would be worth a bit of effort.

hmm depends on the build and genetics me thinks.
id say anything between 12-14 for the tallies! and maybe 8-10 for the shorties :)
of course thats a very generic answer!

are we talking healthy as in healthy, or average/healthy for this day and age?

Id say 8-10 at most unless they are v tall and hippy..
whoever said 14-16.. joke?

10-12 height dependant, but I know quite a few 12s who are fairly wobbly and not in what I would call a healthy state at all.

In terms of my ideal:

5'2" - 5'5" = Size 8
5'6" - 5'9" = Size 10
5'10" - 6' = Size 12

Mainly due to me being a dainty 5'11", 32" waist.

As for people saying guys with 36-38 inch waist are tubby, it's not true at all. I've gone from 32inch waist up to a 36-38 inch waist over the past couple of years at 5'10 with about 10% bodyfat. It's purely down to large obliques and abdomen muscles which is a result of the gym

Agree with this despite only been a 32 myself. Also you have to take into account frame of a person. I have a friend who is 18 stone, 6 ft 4, does not do cardio purely weights with no abs training either. Yet his stomach is flat, no definition but still flat. Depends on the person.

As for the original question, some women look better with a little extra wieght in the right places, others suit the more skinny side of things. Personally I like a girl to be full of confidence with what she has, 12 to 14. I dont like the look of women that look like they could break :P.

Just thought of another factor for women also, women who are blessed with huge boobs with a smaller frame naturally have to go a size up to fit comfortably. I know a number of girls that have to do this, my GF has around a size 12 body but has to buy size 14 in some cases to accomodate :P ill say no more.

My gf is a petite 5'4", but has big boobs and a shapely bum due to horse-riding.

So she's got slim arms and legs, but an uber hour-glass figure. Tops, shirts and dresses are usually 8s, and jeans/knickers/skirts 10s due to bootyliciousness.

They really should switch female clothing to measurements like guys.

Same as my Mrs, shes currently 18 on top, 16 below and shrinking :(

Exactly i think someone above hit it on the head also, its how the person visually looks at that size, some women look hot at size 8. Some can pull of 14 really well. Whereas some women look ill at size 8 and some look to plump at 14. They will never be the "CORRECT" size for women its all opinion and changes from woman to woman.

8, 12, 14

I like my girls abit fuller, that size 14 model is the dogs knees. Cold morning in bed which one would you want a cuddle off ?

Because BMI was intended as a statistical tool for comparing large populations, it's not meant to supplant an individual assessment of a person for their health and fitness (despite anecdotal evidence of what some doctors appear to think). Like many tools if it's used for the purpose intended then it is absolutely fine and will broadly give a healthy range for most people who do not lead particularly active lifestyles. Yes if you're carrying a lot of muscle mass the usefulness of it is diminished but then I'd expect any doctor worth their salt to know this and adjust accordingly.

I'm not the greatest fan of BMI applied indiscriminately either but that was never the point of it so therefore to deny it has any functional purpose is simply obstinate.
You're wrong, it's broken as designed, the exponent of 2 on height assumes an incorrect scaling and means that being taller you're automatically considered more overweight.

I think there are more factors than just "dress size". If you have a curvy woman, or one with large boobs for example it'll always skew the results a bit. It changes too depending on their height, bone structure and race/geniology. It depends on their shape, some may be pear shaped, apple shaped or hourglass or something else. So they could be a size 14 on top but 12 below, or vice versa or just a 12 all over.

I've known girls who are size 12s who look slim yet curvy, conversely I've met size 12 girls who are a little pear shaped and not very curvy at all.

I think it's all to do with proportion and comparison to others around - plucking a figure "just like that" is a bit of a silly thing to do.

Out of that pic, the 12, but that's probably because they seem to be tall, and the 8 has grossly skinny legs.

Been talked about but dismissed as, in general, women were against it as they didnt want to be seen as a e.g. "32" or whatever for waist/hips etc (as opposed to a current e.g. 12). It was seen as making them look even bigger Same went for other measurements....
