Hi all,

A colleague at work has a bog standard 2.0 or 2.2 Z4 on an 05 plate which is coming up for an inspection 1 service, and the local BMW garage (Sytner in Solihull) has quoted £285 for an inspection 1 service . That seems to be taking the michael a bit as she questioned and it seems for nearly £300 all they do is a normal oil/filters type service.

Is there any type of offer that BMW have on (sure I read something about 4 plus, or was that 6 plus?!) or will they price match an indy/let you take your own oil?

The car is on some type of HP/personal contract agreement and she will check if it has to be done at BMW, it just seems massively expensive for they type of service an indy will charge about £120 for.

Any suggestions?

Ta.

Haggle with them, I got Sytner Solihull to knock off over £300 their initial quote when I had my inspection one done.

That service is £217 under BMW Value Service which IIRC all main dealer should now offer as its a BMW UK offer.
Sytner Group certainly offer this. I've spoken to our local dealer about it and they said it's a group wide thing at least.

EDIT- This page leads you to believe that it's only for the 3 and the 5 though...

I'd also suggesting buying your own oil. It saved me £50 +VAT on my last service.

As for dealer prices they do seem to vary. I had my Inspection II done in November and prices started from £220 (+Oil) at Sytner Nottingam all the way to almost £400 at Knights in Stoke.

A pretty E46 :p

I've got an Inspection II coming up soon (1,500 miles - which at my rate of late will barely be a month!). Will let people know how I get on with that one!

Quite, a service pack for an inspection 2 is about 90 quid at the lowest price and the oil about 70 and it books at what 3 hours work so your indy is like 15 to 20 quid an hour or not using genuine parts?

Maybe he provided his own oil? Would seem more realistic?

If it's oil/filters, do it for her? Honda took the pee with the quote for my last service which was an oil/filter change and what amounted to a visual inspection, did it myself and saved about £100 quid.

Honda have always taken the Michael as far as servicing quotes are concerned, I get the impression that their mechanics must use gold plated latex gloves.

if its under a HP / lease they may stipulate it has to be done at a VAT registered garage.

Just for peoples information, i've got a quote from my local BMW Specialist and he wanted the following:

Inspection II £211 inc VAT (inc Air filter, oil, oil filter, microfilters + spark plugs).
Brake Fluid change £30.31 inc

Cooper BMW Colchester are currently seeing if they can match it so i'll post back when they get back to me!
