Heya, I've got a Lian Li PC-A05b which came with two 120mm case fans each rated like so:

RPM - 1500
Airflow - 56 cfm
Noise level - 24.7 dB(A)

I was just wondering if it's safe to assume that any branded fan from the likes of Scythe, Noctua, Akasa, Noiseblocker and so on will be quieter than these Lian Li ones as long as they are of a lower rpm? Take the 1200rpm Scythe Slipstream for example:

RPM - 1200
Airflow - 68.5 cfm
Noise level - 24 dB(A)

Is it really plausible that it will offer such drastically higher airflow while managing to be quieter?

not so much about speed as it is blade design look around on google about fans and see which type would best suit you.

enermax have just bought out some new fans that are supposed to be very quiet altho they don't sell them here

depends if they are low pressure or high pressure

most ppl will say get a noctua best quiet fan out there :D

never bought one before so im not sure :D

I've done a fair bit of reading around already but it seems quite hard to judge how all the different fans will compare to each other when actually installed in a case and not in some DIY testing device that the reviewer has put together. I'm just looking for 2 fans that will run as exhausts and one to chuck on my cpu cooler, ideally choices that would match or exceed the airflow of my current ones while dropping noise levels a bit.

I'm not entirely sure but I guess the 2 exhausts will be low pressure while the one intended for my cpu cooler would be high? Those Noctua's do indeed look like they'd do a magnificent job but well...you'd hope so at that price.

Something tells me that the Delta isn't quite the right fan for me. The Apache does look interesting though!

If I were buying those Apaches I'd get them in black instead of that nasty camo colors...

I like your thinking! Nothing in the case is on view though so they could be fluorescent green and it wouldn't matter really.
