First impressions of the F10 BMW 5 Series

which is just another item now no longer serviceable by the home mechanic. Yawn
And the E60 is such a home serviceable car? :p
Do you know where the button is? And I can't get my head around how you'd use a button on a hill start in a manual?
Literally it's the switch just towards the rear of the car in line with the gear selector. In terms of a manual, you have hill start assist. Come to a stop, engage the brake, and when you try and drive off it will release.

in hindsight, how anyone can think that the passenger side of those two interiors (E60 and F10) is drastically different needs to play with more shapes!

I can see what you're saying, remove the curve above the nav screen on the E60 and the dashes do begin to bear a slight resemblance to each other.

Gotta agree with you on that, can't see people buying these to service it themselves, think the home servicing question only comes into itself second hand and when the car is 3+ years old.

Hmm, wonder how reliable are these button activated handbrakes then? Prefer the positive feel of cable to lever myself but I suppose till I've tried it I won't know or realise how good it is in use.

It freaked the hell out of me when I had it in the Z4. With a handbrake you get resistive feel, with this, nothing. You take your foot of the brake and pray

I've not heard of any significant or common issues with these sorts of handbrakes. In terms of feel - I really like them. Makes a manual hill start much easier!

It's one of those things - you do have to trust it. It's harder because you're so used to having the control, but the reality is that a car is doing a huge amount "behind the scenes" anyway, and this is just another step.

My X6 has an auto hold button next to the handbrake switch. When it has been set the handbrake is automatically applied and you don't have to even keep your foot on the brake once you have stopped.

The dashboard on the F10 looks very similar to the one on the X6, we don’t have the curvy top any more:

The LHD F10 has the leather portion facing the driver. The UK cars we have seen have the leather portion facing the driver, too. So, they have swapped the console from LHD to RHD, but the design is to have the leather portion facing the driver!
So they have. Odd decision.
Although now that the iDrive is located next to the gear lever rather than below it, it probably makes sense.

Just to brag, I am going to have the opportunity to drive F10s around a track in a couple of weeks :D

I may do my own hugely biased and over-opinionated review.
