Mileage claims at work

Used to get 42p per mile in my last job which was awesome as it would cover petrol / servicing plus a bit of profit on top.

New job pays 14p per mile which doesn't even cover the cost of petrol.

17p a mile here which doesnt even cover cost of petrol let alone mechanical costs, depreciation etc....

And this is despite my contract saying "You are entittled to reasonable cost of travel and this will be calculated based on actual costs."

64p per mile for over 1800cc for first 3,000 miles then drops to ~23p. Or take lump sum of £80pm and get 44p per mile for 10,000 miles.

58p for my 3000cc engine.

So you get more for having a bigger engine?

Mine is the same size but I get 14p regardless. :(

I would moan about it to my boss more but I only drive on company business about once every 2 months.

If you get over the HMRC rates, your expenses become taxable and possibly nicable. Different employers have vastly different methods of paying travel expenses, for example some are flat rate per mile, others are based on the engine size of the car etc.

nothing - I don't want mileage allowance from my employer as I claim it all back from the revenue. Would rather reduce my tax bill than get a measly amount back each month.

You can claim the difference from the tax man for anyone getting less than the HMRC guidelines
