Okay, so I have a 16:10 TV. with HDMI I can only do 1080p which is stretched and looks a bit naff. Can I in some way force 1920 x 1200 on this TV to get a proper picture?

It's being displayed through a Radeon 3870 graphics card.

Thanks.

I don't think you can force more pixels on a tv.

If it's 1080p, you're stuck with it i guess.

Why not try a slightly lower resolution that will frame the tv better?

Why not just change to 1920x1080 resolution?

Edit: Ahh, I should read more. 1920x1080 and have black bars top and bottom? GPU scaling instead of the monitor.

I can do that but it looks horribly ghosty and blurry. I use a 5m HDMI cable. It's not 16:9, it's 16:10 and it's native resolution is 1920 x 1200. Is there ANY way to force this over HDMI?
i had a 16:10 26" tv which was native resolution 1920 x 1200 but using hdmi only gave 1080p and the only way to get it to 1920 x 1200 was to use vga..

so i sent the screen back...

Is there an option in the TV to force a 16:9 display?

When the TV is set to 16:9 the picture is essentially stretched to 16:10. I could have it at 4:3 but that's not what I'm going for.

It just stretches 1920 x 1080 to 1920 x 1200. This means that everything is streched vertically and looks rubbish. I can't use GPU scaling because it's greyed out in the driver - seems windows 7 doesn't like my 3870 all too much. :(

Unfortunately I got it from a high street store and can't send it back, It's a Technika 26" TV.

I've managed to force 1920 x 1200 via Powerstrip but it's cut off a bit at all edges and blurry. I'll have to have a play to see if I can get it working properly.

Thanks for all of the replies guys. :)

Thought I'd put a closer on this. Took it back to the shop after many attempts at getting native which failed, they tried to fob me off with excuses but in the end they replaced it with a 32". :D

16:10 TV, thats pretty bazaar, so its not native for BluRay, upscaled DVD's will be in 1080 as well, so have to use the TV's scalers for SD (and get larger than average letterboxing).

Bigger than average letterboxing for any widescreen.. So its not really a proper 26inch TV. I would return it to the highstreet store and tell them straight out its not a 26inch TV, its a 26inch computer monitor with a tv reciever built in..., and a proper telly will display blurays and 1080p without letterboxing.

Lol, awesome.

Is the new telly working OK in terms of resolution?

It's arriving tomorrow. Free delivery. It's 1366 x 768 or something around that so no issues plumbing HDMI into it at native. Still I don't really mind because actually having native would be nice. :D

Annoyingly with the old TV although it was 16:10 it stretched everything to 1920x1200 and thought that was 16:9.

You do know that HDTV comes in two resolutions - 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 720.

I would expect a 32" TV to have full 1080 resolution.
