H50-1 or Noctua NH-U12P

Neither. Get a Thermalright Venomous X and a couple of Akasa Apache's. (Or 1). The Venomous X is on TWO. Best performance combination but not the silentest. It is pretty quiet though.

Thats interesting comments given that I have seen most people recommending H50-1.

How about Prolimatech Mega Shadow Performance CPU Cooler? How does that compare to Thermalright Venomous X?

Id highly reccomend using 2 fans, also to run both via pwm youll need one of theese.

This allows both pwm fans to be run from the psu, but still be speed controlled from the cpu fan header.

EDIT; Off topic, Great chart Helios, have you got round to testing the TRUE yet, looking forward to your findings.

Thanks! I'm gonna add the Coolit ECO next week and I'm hoping to add the Corsair H50 whenever they send it. The TRUE is definitely something I want to add because I know people want to see how it compares with all those new coolers out!

Hopefully they'll send me the Cogage Arrow at some point. :)

Thanks guys - NH-D14 looks really tempting from the charts (assuming that they are true!)

how quiet is the NH-D14 by the way?

It's very quiet! And they provide the ULNA adapters should you want to run it even quieter. And as you can see, it doesn't impact performance tremendously.

Yep, the TRUE is still pretty good for its age, albeit mine is lapped to 2000 grit, will keep an eye out for your tests.:)

Well the bottom line is the H50 is good, but about as good as the best air coolers, so its w/e u want to spend really - as the H50 comes with a fan and the others dont even though most ppl like myself replaced the H50 fans.

With my case/cooling I get 17-20 idle and 30-35 under load, but thats @ 3.2ghz @ 3.6 its around the 40-45 under load using the push/pull method but ye its loud coz I bought 2 sharkoon 2000 rpms lol ><

The truth being, any of the ones mentioned above wont really make a huge diff from each other, I mean all in all they will be a few deg diff. depending on fan setup.

Lapped TRUE is brilliant. I think the corsair h50 is a bit of a weird choice in my eyes, more expensive with more to go wrong for less performance than several air coolers.

However this;

they will be a few deg diff. depending on fan setup.

Over time the fluid can evaporate, on a custom watercooled setup, this can be easily replaced. At least with an air cooling heatsink theres nothing to go wrong as its basicaly a few bits of metal.

One of the main reason for me getting my H50 was the ease of install and size. I dont have to take everything out my case ever time i want to fit a cpu, dont have to chop the heatspreaders off memory because they are not covered, allows space for better airflow. When i had a Scythe and before that a freezer 7 pro, i bent fins on the heatsink, a clip came off because it wasnt properly inserted in the board, i managed to cut my finger when pressing the heatsink into the board...

With my H50 i fitted the backplate then screwed the radiator to an exhaust fan, then another fan next to that for push pull. I put the cpu into the board, half turned each screw, pressed the pump cooler part onto the cpu, turned once then screwed it in. Done

No forcing down any clips and watching as one side pops out, no awkwardness trying to connect fan headers when they are covered by a huge chunk of metal etc etc

Maybe if i upgrade to a full tower in future i will think about a Venomous X. I'll probably just go straight for water though
