Pretty much as title really, looking for great value for money so can't be eye-wateringly expensive. And some people have told me that some noise cancelling headphones aren’t really any good on the tube. Only stuff like aircraft..

I hear Bose is good, any suggestions?

Active noise cancelling is often designed more to reduce lower pitched tones and consistent tones. It's significantly harder to cater to higher pitched and very changeable sounds.

For the tube, something like a half decent pair of canal phones that block out noise are likely to be the most practical solution rather than a big set of closed back cans.

I find my Shure SE210s to block out noise very well, i'd imagine the various competing products do as well.

Bose are ok but very expensive for what they are, you're paying a substantial amount for the name there.

For the tube a decent set of canalphones will do. I have Futuresonics Atrio M5s and with my normal listening volume the tube noise could not be heard.

Another vote for sennheisers, have a nose on ebay they can be had very cheap but look at the feedback first as there are a ton of fakes about.

Good sounding for the price.

Some shure in ear headphones will do nicely. I have the SE110's and they block out everything.

Be aware, there are a lot of fakes floating round on ebay etc when it comes to the big named brands of headphones.

Had the same issue with the Metro so I bought myself a pair of Sennheiser CX300II's

They seem to do the job blocking out the sound of the train, buzzers and people talking fairly well :) Not to expensive these days, there might be a newer version of them available by now, had these a year or so. Think I got them from Play or Amazon for around £20ish down from £45 I think they were.

EDIT:

Seems they are down to £13 now :)

I have the atrio M5s too and it works great on the tube. Any decent canal headphones will help block out most of the tube noise.
