Hi, what is a good graphics card?

Hi Falconik.
I think you have your answer already now.
I remember when I was a newcomer to OcUK like you, and I can see you are eager to be a part of the community! Lot's of posts in a relatively small thread! :D

Anyway, It's nice to see somebody behave so eager and innocent for once here,
As others have said... It really makes no difference whether you get the 5850 or the 5970, They are all great, just get the best one you can afford! Period!

u wont regret it, it's brilliant and £100 cheaper than 480 ;)
£480 is around £450, for another £49 you could get a 5970 :)
Was suprised to just find 5970's for sale for £499 from a re/e-tailer thats normally one of the most expensive out there

On a serious note though 5870 all the way its what im trying to fund at the moment lol

I think you made a good choice here :D You can always clock the 5870 too :D The X Vapor will clock better with cooler temps.

Let us know how you get on and how happy you are when you get it installed.

McT

Thanks guys, and will let you know how I get on :D No doubt i'll be back here if I have a problem installing it haha :p

Just do the way i said and it will be fine. :p

You will be shocked at the temp difference compared to your old GTX295.

whereas i do agree that teh ATI 5870 is the card to go for it is worth mentioning that it will be slower than your currant Nv gtx295 especially as you wont be overclocking.

In theory you are right man, but the 295 GTX, my experience anyway, is that it performs horrible on most games. Have you seen the benchmarks with the 5870? The 295 beats it on some games, but the 5870 beats it on a lot of games aswel. To say the 295 is a Dual GPU you'd think it would smash it. But it doesn't. I'd rather go with a GPU that has lower temps (more reliable) and that wont be buggy because it isnt Dual GPU. Dual GPU IMO is not optimized for games well at all. But that is my experience, maybe I got bad luck :P

Check these benchmarks out, it says it all :P
