THANKS VODAFONE, LOVE YOU LONG TIME.
Can't get even a semi-decent deal on the Desire anywhere now
Only place is Mobile Phones Direct, but I don't think that includes a flexible booster, which I need.
Your're semi-right. The flexible booster is used for the unlimited internet. This also means you get capped to about 360kbs BUT if you ring t-mobile and let them know you have the desire which requires an always on data connection they'll upgrade you to the web 'n' walk plus giving you full speed and allowing you to use your flexible booster for whatever you want. Hence, I'm now on 300 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited (3gb) web for £25 a month over 18 months with a free phone. For a first contract (no upgrade/retention deal) I don't think that's too bad.
Wont they want to charge me extra then though? How do you manage to get it free?
So hasn anyone here rooted their Desire yet??..im thinking of it but it seems a bit complicated??...reading the threads over at XDA it doesnt seem all that easy to do.
It isn't yet. This needs a Linux CD amongst other things
Best hope is another kernel exploit is found soon
Should just need to ring Tech Support and ask. Plenty of success on XDA too - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=659695
When I did it I had no trouble. 5-10 mins on the phone and the lass had increased my data speed and switched my booster to unlimted texts.
As far as I can tell the main benefit of Rooting is Apps2SD (correct me if I'm wrong) which apparently is going to be enabled by the release of Froyo anyway.
I can't really see the point in potentially bricking your phone for the sake of a few weeks wait.

As mentioned in another thread, I've gone for O2 through Carphone Warhouse (OneStopPhoneShop). It's free phone with £30 / month 600 mins, unlimited texts 24 month contract plus unlimited web browsing plugin for £7.50. That seems a little pricey until you factor in that the first 13 months are half price. So it will work out just under £30 over the duration of the contract (£21-22 ignoring the web plugin).
It does mean I have to faff around with claiming rebates every few months but it's a lot cheaper than the official rates that O2 have publicised.
Struggling to decide if I should go Desire or hold out a little bit longer and see what the new iPhone looks like. I'm leaning towards waiting now.
Contract expires 6th June but can upgrade from 6th May (O2).
