Hi guys

This is probably going to come across as a stupid question.

I am getting married in oct and have booked or photographer. She will be with the bride in the morning and will be staying till the first dance. So all day. Now thios is the stupid question

What is norm with feeding her. Do I just stick her on the guest list so she eats what the rest of the guests are getting or leave it up to her to sort out.

Im not sure what the norm is. Can anyone advise please.

Thanks :D

I don't think you are required to give her anything. It's more up to personal preference. Obviously she won't be taking photos of people eating so she can go get her own food if you don't want to pay for her meal!

If it's a buffet just mention to her that it's ok for her to grab some.

Personally I just disappear for 30-45 minutes and have lunch somewhere else and use that time to reflect and prepare for the next part of shooting.

At the hotel I was shooting a wedding at last August they had me listed under the bridal tab so I could get my own lunch. Good job too. A bacon n lettice n tommy toasty was £9.50! (Was the best one I had ever had though)

You cant really expect her to sit n eat with your guests as it could make guests uncomfortable (as well as her)

Now thats a good idea. Thats what Ill do and means she can go and get something in the other part of the hotel and sit on her own instead of having to sit with people she doesnt know. :)

Thanks

In my contract I ask for meals to be provided, but i do not stipulate what. In the meeting I tell them I don't mind, it could be just a sandwich but i have sat down with the guests before (kids table). The reason that clause is there is so I don't have to carry food with me (my bag is packed as it is) and it also saves me time to look for food when every minute is precious for photos, and a lot of these weddings are in a barn in the middle of nowhere! The clients all understands where I am coming from and they are more than happy to accommodate me on that. One client even gave me £30 for food one time as it was a small wedding and it was in Londno so I just went the Starbucks, left me enough change to get a taxi back to my hotel after the shoot too :)

We have in our terms and conditions that hot food should be provided. After working all day, running about you work up a massive appetite that a small sandwich isn't going to satisfy.

The following are all usual things:

1) Sit with the guests and eat the wedding food
2) Sit in the bar area with wedding food
3) Sit in bar area with hot food (burger + chips or whatever), usually have a tab to get a coke and a coffee etc as well.
4) Food isn't provided as contract hasn't been read, start a mission to find a chocolate bar and eventually get back to the venue just in time for speeches feeling very tired, grumpy and hungry.

I had my meal at the bar which had plenty of comfy chairs and tables. That way I had the peace n quiet to enjoy a beer, food and re organise my gear. By that point I had just tossed things here there and everywhere so it was great to make sure my memory cards were stored safely, backed up and the batteries are replaced. I can check my list that I have covered what I need to do before the outside light goes incase I have missed something and I can prep the evening shoot.

Easily the beer was the most important and I am actually not kidding! haha

I don't drink a drop of alcohol during the shoot. Don't really want anything that could affect my mind, that's just me. Not to mention I am carrying thousands of pounds of stuff. Plus i think the client will notice small things like this, if things go wrong, fingers would be pointing at the photographer was enjoying a beer etc (i've seen this happen).

Best to leave the beer til after it's all in the can.

In the weddings I've done with Mark, as others, he has it in his contract that we are fed, at the end of the day we are their the whole day to, and working!

Both times they've sat us seperately from the guests, out of sight completely, just keep an ear out for when speech's start :) - First time we had what the guests were having, full 3 course meal and some wine to! - Awesome :D

Its like driving though isn't it.
You're allowed one :P

Nah but seriously you should. I can drink a good 3 before they'll make me grin in that silly way :P
