Hey, well I've not played M2TW in a longggg time. I never manage to get to the end of a campaing though because it always becomes a bit samey.

So what mods would you recomend? I also have kingdoms so can play mods requiring that too.

I have played SS a long time ago and it was something new and did make it a lot more interesting. But I'd like to know what else is out there too. LTC looks interesting and im curious about the LOTR mod for it.

Anyway, so what mods do you play?

im curious about the LOTR mod
Third Age Total War is absolutely immense. The unit models are largely based on the visuals of the LotR trilogy, but the game itself slightly favours the lore of the books rather than the movies.

The vanilla mod itself is great (version 2.0 with an added Fellowship of the Ring campaign, should be out in the next month or two), and it's very much alive and kicking. Middle Earth just lends itself very well to the MIITW engine, and the lore means factions are genuinely very different (unlike Medieval II where every Catholic faction is a slight variation on it's neighbour). For example; Dwarves have the best infantry bar none, but no cav at all (apart from mercenary units) whereas Rohan's cavalry is outstanding, but they lack good heavy infantry.

The community for this mod is incredibly active, and there are a huge amount of sub-mods too, with literally something to suit all tastes. I use RC/RR (Real Combat/Real Recruitment) which adds a boat load of really nice touches, tweaks and refinements that I'd miss too much if I ever went back to vanilla TATW. For more info, see the official Third Age forum over at TW Center.

If fantasy isn't your thing, TW Center hosts a lot of other mods too. Of these, Europa Barbororum II is the one I'm most looking forward to, but that could be a year or two away yet :(

I play stainless steel , and when I had a really crap computer I played LTC , however LTC is good for it's unique scenarios and some people like the vanilla units , which LTC Retains.

I play 2 mods:
Stainless Steel: basically what vanilla should have been
Third Age Total War: Just awesome i'd wait til the 2.0 comes out, as its gonna add quite a lot.

Iv only ever played rome total war mods, but a lot of them wrote over the actual game and meant backing up which was annoying
Can't remember how it was for Rome, but thankfully MII/Kingdoms is mod-foldered, so your original game and all mods are kept seperate and playable. If you intend installing any submods you'll need to back up though.

no one play deus lo vult? it has the best rpg-style features of any of the mods. it kind of surpasses EB in that respect

deus lo vult is my favourite mod, i'm suprised its not more popular, probably because its rock hard. I find every other mod utterly lacking compared to it. Even SS RR/RC with BygIV.
