You may have read my other thread about me getting a refund from Apple for Mac Pro 2009 8 core as it had many issues and had to take it back to the store 4 times in 3 months. UPS/TNT will be arranging collection in 1/2 days.

I want a Another Mac, my previous mac pro was:
8 core 2009 12GB ram 4870 2.6TB Space.

My Usage has changed:
Internet Browsing
Adium
Photoshop cs3
Aperture 2 & 3
Music & Videos (3000 Songs in Lossless + 100GB of HD Video)
Video Editing - Final Cut Express 5/Studio (when its released)

Other thing you might need to know:
The Mac will be on around 19 hours a day
I already have 24' 30' screen (1920x1200,2560x1600)
I already have a Macbook 2006.
I have a Fileserver with 2TB Space

Budget: £3500
would like to spend a lot less so i can have extra cash in the bank :D

So what Mac Am i & what extra should i buy?

I think a 27" iMac would be ideal and then you could choose whether to use the 30" as primary or the iMac's display. I would probably sell the 24" unless you have something else you can use it for. ;)

Then again I only have a 21.5" iMac and the 27" is far superior. :( :o

Not sure how your Macbook fairs but would be nice to get a shiny aluminium one!

I do all what you have stated on my 27" iMac. I would get the i7 version then upgrade to 16gb ram. Sell the 24" monitor and use the 30" as a 2nd screen.

You can then get an iPad and still have funds spare :)

I would go Imac i7 27' with the 30' as second display? or even sell the 30' and your 24' and buy a IPS 27' eg Dell Ultrasharp....
Judging by your usage i will say a i7 Imac is more than powerful enough...Even a i5 would be suitable? Then you can use 4gb or even go to 8gb++ and still have enough for a ipad :p or the new iPhone :)

The standard i5 iMac imo, adding whatever RAM you require and the HDD if you need more than 1TB+your externals.

i did forget one thing i might play games on the Mac via Steam, mainly TF2/CSS

just to let you know to i can get 17% discount from my place of work Seems my company has a deal with Apple as they buy a lot of Macs!. :)

To be honest, i'd just spec the iMac in whatever budget you set then. It'll do your needs perfectly well. i7 if you wish, the 4850 is fine for your gaming needs.

If it were me (going by HE prices);

iMac 27"
2.8ghz i7 Upgrade
8GB RAM Upgrade

And the HDD too if you require it. Again, you can get the RAM from elsewhere too..I imagine, cheaper too?

If you are concerned about having a perfect screen I would not buy an iMac the Yellow tint is still a problem!

I am about to return my 3rd iMac because off the Yellow tint and I am hopefully going to ask for a Refund and wait until the next Revision off the iMac comes out!

its really hard to spec,

Im pretty sure i want an Imac 27"

i can give my gaming rig my 30" and my FS the 24"

But really considering:
i7 Vs i5 its 10-30% performance for £160...?
HDD Space 1TB could be enough but what if i need more..
i need to work out how much im going to need

Im pretty sure im gunna get the 8GB ram. 4GB is to little for me,

Well personally i would go i7 as it will help in Final Cut etc....Just add a 2tb+ External?...Yeh just get 4gb for now and sell it on then get 8gb (its cheaper aftermarket)

If it was me, I'd buy a 27" imac with the i5, swap the internal drive for an SSD and a get a drobo, stick the old internal drive in and buy a couple more... It'll be quick and you'll still have heaps of storage...should run about £2500 I guess...

Top spec iMac, crack it open and put in a 256GB SSD too, buy 8GB from overseas if you fancy it?

Drobo via FW800 for all your HD and music needs?

????

Profit.

Bigredshark and AmTechFox
If he did that he would lose his warranty and i know a lot of people do have problems with Macs (and Windows :p) Even the OP has had his Mac Pro fixed numerous times so im sure he would appreciate the warranty over speed....Well i would.
