Asus rampage III Extreme

i have put my system together, it booted with xmp profile running ma ram at 2000 mhz 8-8-8-24 2N .. is it suppose to be 1N? though its good enough for me >.>

still nothing installed, will report back in a few days with temps and all pictures of the system :)

i must say had to pull some tricks to fit the prolima mega helm with 2 noctua fan and the corsair ram air flow fan, but pulled it off.

my bottom fan connectors next to the oc station connector opt_fan 3 i think and cha 1 the ones near the HD audio bottom left would not load my fans so am not sure wuts up there :( will report in a few days

EDIT: one more thing my board came with bios 0402 and since am not ocing and its detecting all 6gb ram at 2000mhz am wondering if ishould bother updating ? advice me pls :)

The 0.602 bios fixed my 4.2 Ghz BSODs :)

Thats nice and stable now, except for my freaky core 1, but its nowhere near that bad when playing games.

hey guys, when i opened my cpu-z i have a 980x but it shows 1722.2 mhz bclk 143 with 12 multiplier, it stable on that some times it jumps to 3.3 and 24 multiplier. is there a reason its not running at 3.33 ghz acause in the bios i get 3.33ghz

really disappointing results. i feel something is wrong with my gpu and cpu
this stepdown idiling thing keeps my cpu slow. i barely see it hit 3.33ghz and the results of 3d vantage are bad, and so are the c300 results compared to other c300 crucial disks. can some1 suggest anything please. grealty would appreciate it.

the other thing is all the system programs read that i have a 1gb card while this card suppose to be a 2 gb >.> i know its a dual gpu and progs usually read only 1 gpu but any way i can make sure ?

Dual GPU cards only actually have half of the total memory available.

If you have a 2 Gb 5970, you only actually have 1 Gb of Physical VGA ram, each program that you use will not detect a 2 Gb total, but rather 1 Gb per GPU, just the same as if you have two seperate 1 Gb cards in Crossfire, you still only have 1 Gb of Video ram, not 2 Gb.

I dont really see anything wrong with your results at all. The CPU will speed up while it is being used, you can also disable that power saving thing in the bios if you want to.

Also, you got an R3E with an I7 980x, and a 5970, and youre running everything at stock frequencies and dont seem to have changed anything in the bios at all ..... Why?

There's always one...

As for Speedstep... if it annoys you then why don't you turn it off.

Your scores are perfectly fine, the only reason they might not compare to everyone else's is for a start you are running it in high, when everyone else runs it in performance mode. Another reason is you have an ATI card, which doesn't have Physx, thus it won't bump up the CPU test 2 which utilizes Physx.

cheers guys, i was waiting for the artic silver curing time before i start. also am a noob. i live in dubai this could be the best piece out here and a magazine might feature me for it. in the article i mentioned this post and all the people who helped me especially helois and simulatorman and vortx who where here fromt he start.

bhavv also ill add ur names and post it here when it happens.

now as for my system. i am running the xmp profile for the ram and when you say bios setting could you please tell me what i should change. as i said this is my first system and i have 0 experience in ocing.

il try find the speed step down option now and ill post a performance mark bench in a bit.

iby mistake used IDE instead of achi for my c300 so i wanna reinstall windows too. ill keep checking the thread for ur replies

thanks in advance

First of all you might want to disable Intel Speedstep. That is what brings your CPU clocks down when in idle, perfectly fine for every day use but if you want to benchmark and find best stability just disable it for now.

It will be under the "Extreme Tweaker" menu, select "CPU Configuration" and then set "Intel Speedstep" to disabled.

With everything at stock I would advise at least 12 hours of Prime95 to make sure your system is stable and there are no problems with the RAM to begin with.

i disabled the speedstep, ran a perfomance bench was disappointed with the numbers. i have to go work now but when i get back ill post a performance bench and reinstall windows for ACHI :P ill keep u posted and thanks vortx for ur replies

In fact, disable Speedstep, C1E and C-State.

Why are you disappointed with your scores? They look perfectly fine, not to mention you haven't overclocked anything yet.

ok vortx ill give it another go, but ill have to work now so ill repond later tonight
did what was mentioned above.

do these seem normal to u with my setup ?

also i tried to reinstall windows 7 but i failed and got some error. so i system imaged backed my c300 to my secondory drive. i came to format my c300, i changed boot to cd, put in the windows cd and rebooted. got into the menu clicked on custom option then saw 3 partitions. 100 MB system (part of my c300) 238 GB my c300 and 1TB my secondory so i clicked more options then formated the 238 GB partition and deleted the 100MB partition. then clicked on the 238GB partition to install windows there and in expanding windows file at around 31% i get an error saying there are missing windows files. am so **bleep** of now, i dont know what to do some1 help pls

The 100MB partition for Windows 7 is perfectly normal and part of the OS installation, don't delete it - it won't show as a physical partition anyway.

As for your 3D Mark Vantage scores I will just get a benchmark of my i7 930 at stock speeds and you can judge for yourself if your scores are accurate...
