People of motors

And anyway I imagine I would rather have a CTR as my primary car over an Exige, and am sure many people on here would agree with me to be honest!

Paradigm - often an opinion shared alone (Thomas Kuhn). How apt
No, but they can typically afford something that is both fun, AND well built/a nice place to sit.

Or they just want a single decent all round car and focus on the other priorities of life.

He is probably to avoid the horror of renting a house!

Now an Exige at 30+, I see the appeal (as a 2nd car).

Yes, the average person at 30+ who is married and has 2 kids can typically afford to run an Exige as a second car... or an M3 as the main family car...

Oh wait... no they cant.

A Civic Type R would be perfect for the job on the other hand. The snobbery from some members is absolutely pathetic sometimes. And as far as you whittling off user names I dont recognise instead of arguing your actual, as ridiculous as it is, point, kind of says it all.

Most of the Type-R owners I've met, especially off the forums, have been over 30, successful and content with their purchase. They have also been the most considerate, safe weekend fun drivers I've come across too. Some have moved on to more expensive and capable machinery but the Type-R has been an affordable and very reliable stepping stone as well as being a very capable car.

Bad way of restricting choice due to a perception of whats acceptable due to age/class.

Each to their own I guess

Same, assuming everyone can afford to run a daily commuter and a performance weekend car just means to me that you cant see past your own nose, I can barely justify one car seeing as though my commute is a 12 mile round trip which I could use public transport for

I've narrowed it down to a Civic Type-R or Corolla T-Sport, I can do two things with the Corolla, get a pre facelift on around 02 for £3.5k and keep the rest of the money or get a facelift which would be newer than the CTR for the same money, i'll start looking properly from tomorrow as the guy who bought my car picks it up tomorrow, i'm excited I do enjoy car shopping :D

Found the CTR much more focussed and fun to drive than the TS, which is why I bought one years ago.

I also (apparently) bought it at the right time in my life...

A lot of people say this and its definitely true for the pre facelift Corolla but not the facelift, the CTR is still the better drivers car but the facelift Corolla isnt far behind and is a better buy due to lack of scene tax plus it has much more kit and as mentioned for the same money you can get a newer car with more kit

And Matt says Audi boards are clueless:rolleyes:

There is just as much drivel posted on this forum.

I've sat and driven an Exige - a nice place to sit? Not really IMO. But then I'm over 30 so obviously I'm going against the grain... is that my lack of class showing through?

Didn't drive the facelift come to think of it, had made the purchase before the local dealer brought in a couple of Tsport facelifts.

I dont know how we got onto Exige, i'm really not interested in blasting around Stockport in the car version of a blue bottle fly, I like them but they are just not my bag

It has, lowered suspension (20mm) uprated ARB's front and rear, engine bay brace (what they called I forget)

Interior is improved with different seats, leather and red stiched stearing wheel, white dials, carbon effect dash trim

Exterior is improved with the usual facelift Corolla body kit and light clusters but also has a front mesh grill specific to the T-Sport model

Your right about the Facelift being improved chassis wise, but with pretty much identical mods you'll get the same result from the PFL. Depends how much money you want to spend really, TTE front strut brace, whiteline rear ARB and some eibach springs will set you back somewhere in the region of 350-400 (or less if you keep your eye on eBay etc.) and you'll have much the same setup as the FL.

Ofcourse you won't get the other advantages of the nicer interior and arguably exterior though. I have a PFL with full TTE bodykit which helps the look a lot, but the non TTE PFl does look a bit namby pamby imo.

Spot on mate yeah i've done a fair bit of research and thats exactly what I took on board, does yours wear tyres unevenly because of the eibachs?

Pre facelift is possible if a good one comes up but I have to admit I do want a the facelift more simply because i'm not really into modding as much as I used to be

I recognise your car for Toyota Owners club

Not got any chassis mods on mine yet :p. I've not heard stories of dodgy wear because of eibachs, they are Toyota approved springs. Ofcourse you'll want your tracking re-done after fitting, aslong as you do that I can't see it being a problem.

The facelift is nicer, for sure. The red/black interior gives it a bit more je ne se qua and it actually looks like it might mean business from the outside. Either way I think they're a bit of a bargain, 3.5k private would get you a decent early PFL i'd of thought, 5k a decent early facelift. Would try and drive one first though, the tight powerband is not for everyone.
And you could ofcourse consider its brother the Celica T-Sport, same engine and drivetrain but probably need another grand to get similar age/mileage to a Corolla.

Cheers, I used to work for RRG Toyota and whilst I was there I driven numerous cars inc pre, post CTS and Celica, I loved the Celica but its not for me in the looks department and you need over £6k for a good one i'm not willing to spend more than £5.5k and for that I would like a good condition facelift Corolla, a good condition pre facelift CTR (proving difficult to find due to scene tax) or I could just get a pre like you say for £3.5k, mod it and pocket the change

All depends on what comes up whilst looking

Jeez, this forum sometimes...

Get the CTR mate. You obviously want one and what other people percieve as being right or wrong for your age shouldn't even come into the equation. Personally I think an old shape A3 is pretty bland and you'll be forever driving it around wishing that you bought the CTR, albeit safe in the knowledge that snobs won't think you are too old for the car you drive.

Let other people live their own lives based on what they feel is the norm, take no notice and have a much fun driving the car that you chose because it's exactly what you wanted. This world would be a pretty boring place if everybody did the same.

Very true indeed
