Hi,

I have 2 x 285 in sli and have seen an increase in idel temps. Both GPUS are running at around 50c idle and under load in game ( MW2 ) run at a max of 74c. Are these temperatures ok or do i need to look at extra coooling?. May be a fan behind the HHD caseing?

Thanks for any advice

Nick

My set up

ASUS mn2 sli deluxe
AMD Phenom quad 9850
fenrir cooler
2 x nvidia 285 gtx sli
4 gigs DDR2
dell 24 ultrasharp
Logitech g35
saitek Eclipse ll
Logitech g5

Thanks for the fast reply.

The GPUS are running over clocked at

core = 666
shader clock = 1612

Not sure if im seeing any improvement in performance with the sli but i surpose it will help with future games and gpu demand.

Do you the bottle neck could be my cpu, it is running at stock of 2,5mhz. If i overclock to around 2.8 will it help with performance. Currently the cpu core temp is 36c idel and around 44c under load

Hey if you can get that CPU up past 3Ghz then all the better, temps are well below rated max temps, an SLI setup will need a good clocked CPU to get the most out of it.

You will be very CPU limited in games that support SLI. Also what are you using to read the temps ?

Hi using speed fan to monitor temps and also adjust fan speeds. I also use MSI afterburner to clock my GPU.

Yes i think my current CPU is limited tbh. I am thinking of an upgrade and using these 285s in the new rig.

What software would you recommend for the OC of the cpu?

I have used ntune is this suitable?

To properly overclock CPU, you would need to bios and do it there. Also, speedfan's reading of CPU temp is not the most accurate...the CPU temp reading is a bit off on both my own and my dad's PC- temp my dad's Pc is reported higher, and temp in my PC is reported lower by speedfan. I use Core Temp and HWMonitor instead to check CPU temp.

Hi,

Thanks for that advice. I did run both core temp and Hw Monitor and the temps are within 1 degree of speedfan. I will do some research on overclocking in the BIOS before i start messing.
