Either Microsoft are stupid or they know something we dont

they've tried to do something quirky and interesting, yet they still pulled off nerdy and naff

The only thing WinPhone7 has going for it is the gaming platform. The rest of it has all been done bigger and better by iPhone / Android and it isn't even a remote threat to Blackberrys in the enterprise space.

Too little, Too late Microsoft.

I am using a Windows phone the now, makes me feel like cutting my wrists everytime I go to turn it on.

Will never buy again, even if it is good. Andriod is the way forward.

Windows Phone 7 or Windows Mobile? because they're completely different.

Windows mobile was an abortion of an OS. I had a windows phone with a stylus for about a week before going back to a £30 6300.

Horrible horrible horrible thing. Android is the way forward and £10 billion worth of advertising wont make microsofts new phone desirable or interesting.

One big problem I think they're going to have is that it's not aimed in anyway shape or form at business. WM6.5 is still hanging in there due to it's business use, I write data capture software for mobiles and our clients use predominantly windows mobile. Windows Phone 7 is aimed at consumers, not business and is missing a lot of required things for it to be any use for a business

Using Windows Mobile 6.1 pro here and nothing I can say bad about it. Quick and responsive on my Xperia and the touchscreen works a charm. Had it since December 2008 and its only crashed once in that time (that was me trying something stupid) and usually running 2-3 months between restarts.

Sure its maybe not so consumer friendly out the box as some other Mobile OS but that doesn't make it bad imo. Only thing I miss from Android is the ability to quickly slide left and right between different screens tho I'm sure theres an app for WM that does that if I looked.

The problem with WM6.x is the interface. The likes of HTC tarted it up nicely but every so often you'd still end up at the WM interface, and then it gets ugly.

WM was fine in its day, and still fine for business use, but for a consumer it's not at all finger friendly, has an interface that'd work well on a desktop in about 1995, and doesn't score well on media handling. Last but not least, it doesn't have an app store, or even any easy way to find what's 'out there'. I installed about two apps on mine in two years, primarily because I didn't know what was worth installing.

WM will still live on for a while - particularly in embedded systems. For example, all our local taxis have boxes with what look like WM-based front ends, but legacy is by definition a shrinking market.

Still, it got them a bit more advertising space.:p

One of the reasons Apples iPhone got such a big reception was the masses of advertising used on it, think MS have started to take leaves out of their books, first with W7 and now with WP7.

Personally I haven;t had much of a problem with my WM6 phone, but then I only came into it with the HD, not the slower phones before it. WP7 looks very interesting to me, Android just seems so generic (and pretty much the same as WM in it's looks), WP7 is new and shiny!:p

I wonder if the RTM has cut and paste

As far as I know, it won't - they're apparently going to add cut and paste in a later patch.

As far as their advertising goes, they're going to have to work hard to create a sufficient buzz for the platform to succeed in the shadow of past Windows Mobile versions, so I'm not surprised by the stunts and budgets. As long as people are talking about it, it's working.

I had the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 (WM6.1), which I quite liked, and put SPB Mobile Shell on over the top to hide the hideous Windows Mobile interface as much as I could. Though I was holding out for it, I gave up waiting for WP7 in the end and went and got a Samsung Galaxy S - my favourite gadget in a very long time. I'll be interested to see how WP7 goes, but it's going to be such a new platform and will take time to mature before it's got enough to be going for it to be a serious consideration. Maybe when my contract is up for renewal again I'll take another look.
