Spec me a steak

I would go for fillet.

After that either Rib eye or Sirloin would be my choices. Usually I would buy a sirloin though... fillet is for a treat.

The only resonable reason I see to eat fillet is if you don't like fat, poncy steak with less flavour than rib eye or sirloin, one for the snobs or those who genuinly don't like eating fat

mm all these have got my mouth watering to no end! theres a couple of local butchers near me, my brother swears by one of them, so i will probs go there

Damn this thread has me wanting a steak tonight!

I am with the rib eye brigade, couple mins each side in a hot pan with some oil, garlic and rosemary . Served with chips and some mushrooms, cant beat it :D

My favourite is rib eye. Fillet can be very nice too, maybe not quite as much flavour but the texture can be amazing. Got to mix it up a bit :D Fillet sometimes I have on a bit of toast/ciabatta with nice pate on the top. Ribeye goes down well on it's own or maybe with a bit of shallot and red wine sauce. I must admit I like a nice steak au poivre if it's a cheaper steak. Usually get all my beef from donaldrussell.com but only when things are on offer. As it comes frozen you can wait til the things you want are on special and stock up and it works out almost the same price as supermarket stuff :D

Saving myself from making a new thread...i have some business clients from America that have come over for a few days and ive been told by my boss to take them out for some steak tonight. Problem is that i dont know of any decent steakhouses in London ie the city myself.

Obviously its all going on expenses so money isnt the object here but more the quality of the steak place and their steaks and knowing Americans they do love a good steak obviously it wont be to the quality they are used to in America but id like to take them somewhere decent.

So anyone know of any decent steakhouses around the City of London??.

Help would be appreciated...google isnt really giving me anything decent to work with:p

Never finish a steak in a pan. Always finish it in an oven that's about 80-100ºC for around 10 minutes. It will just let it rest, and if it's still raw in the middle it will warm it through without cooking it.

My ideal steak is good thick rib-eye. Rub it with garlic olive oil and Montreal Steak seasoning. (seriously guys this stuff is worth buying from ebay or next time you visit the states, just do a search) (http://www.mccormick.com/Products/G...nds/Grill-Mates-Montreal-Steak-Seasoning.aspx)

Get a propper grill pan as hot as you can with some olive oil in, until the oil is starting to smoke. Sear the steak for 20 seconds, flip over and leave another 20s, rotate 60º to get the angled grid effect pattern, 20s more, then flip and a final 20s.

Put in warm oven for 10 minutes. Steak should turn a purple/blue colour inside (hence the french term bleu). Enjoy

Has American steaks, so is probably similar to what they're used to.
Never been myself, but have heard it's comparable to the Hawksmoor
