High protein diet is it dangerous?

How many people actually drink 3 litres per day? I probably manage more like 1.5. One pint of water every two hours, I'd be going to the loo every couple of hours too!

I manage it very easily

I probably drink around 5l a day. I have a litre bottle at home that I always drink from, and have a massive tankard at work that I used to drink from.

I really don't like feeling even close to dehydrated.

Didnt realise you had to drink that amount i thought it was something like 6 glasses of water a day. But the point being is i havent changed my drinking/eating habbits i dont smoke drink alcohol or take drugs. And now all of a sudden my pee is looking different.

I think ill drink extra lot of water today and tell you what happens when i pee next ok. stay tuned.

Yeah 6 glasses is no where near enough. Especially if you're hitting the gym often

I really wouldn't like to drink less than 3l a day. I know if I do, I feel so groggy and horrible

Same as Benny. I've never had whey colour my urine before. I get 200g+ of protein a day at 80kg and have no issues whatsoever.

Minimum should be about 2L. Obviously it depends on activity, sweat and body size. Careful with drinking lots of water that you don't over do it. An electrolyte solution like himalayan salts is a good idea - especially after a gym session.

So not drinking enough water is gonna have a negative effect on you, so does drinking to much water have a negative effect. From what you said is that if your pee is clear that means your losing minerals, cause sometimes my peeing sessions turn out like that.

Either way im upping my water consumption because clearly im not having enough.

Well it's the case of too much of anything being bad, too much sex can leave your **** in a sorry state !

Pretty much exactly the same as too much water....yea

you seriously dont have a clue lol. it is impossible to drink too much water without being on drugs, your body simply flushes it out. dont worry about drinking too much its impossible unless your taking special pills.

if your pee is clear - your fine
if your pee is radioactive (extremely bright yellow or green) - your fine
if your pee is dark in colour (green, yellow, or brown) - your not fine

got it now? simples.

you should be drinking 3 litres of water per day. thats 1 pint every 2 hours your awake. so 2 normal glasses per hour.

do you think your well hydrated now?

Where did this 3 litre figure come from anyway?

The Food Standards Agency has this to say:
How much water do we need?
In climates such as the UK, we should drink approximately 1.2 litres (6 to 8 glasses) of fluid every day to stop us getting dehydrated. In hotter climates the body needs more than this. We also get some fluid from the food we eat.

Your on about the extreme of drinking too much water causing death, hes on about the less extreme side of it flushing minerals from the body.
Two different things.

The minimum figures for the body's daily water loss are 500ml through urine and 700ml through breathing and sweating.

Remember this is "SA". I would assume that questions posted in here are by people who do more than the "minimum" amount of daily activity. If you can lose 1.2l just by sitting doing nothing...

A high protein diet alone would give cause to recommend upping your water intake to keep your kidneys healthy.

if your not drinking enough water, you will flush minerals from the body.

if you drink too much you will only flush excess minerals from the body.

so you should drink plenty.

like i said aim for 3 litres a day, 2 glasses per hour. obviously the more active you are, or bigger you are, you may need to adjust this. a short skinny person may be fine just drinking 2 litres per day, whereas a tall fat person would need maybe 4 litres a day.

everyone is different. adjust accordingly.

I read Sonny's posts and was about to jump on it since I don't feel like I drink very much water, but then I did a brief calculation of how much water I tend to drink on an average weekday and it's between 2.5 - 3L every day.

Obviously your body adapts to drinking lower amounts of water, but water is a key part of a massive amount of reactions that take place in the body, including muscle building!

the way the body adapts to you drinking lower amounts of water is by slowing down or not working as efficiently.

the kidneys and liver will start to work at 75% for example, due to you not having enough water. the more water you have, the better it is for you and your organ's.

i dont know exactly how much my body needs, but i tend to drink at least a pint of water with every meal. i also have protein shakes with water in them and pre-workout supps with water in them.

i also take multivitamins, cod liver oil and fish oils and omega 3-6-9, throughout the day and have a glass of water with them.

it all adds up. and thats just water from the tap.

i also drink fruit juice, and eat food with water in it. it's the most overlooked thing when it comes to health. i have never ever gotten acne or spots. my skin has always been clear.i attribute this mainly to how much water i drink.
