...with a 'convection oven' setting.

Just tried mine out for the first time and (normal oven's being repaired). Set the time for half an hour and the temperature as according to the instructions.

However twenty minutes in - and the microwave unit itself is getting very hot. To the point that the back is almost too hot to touch, yet my food is luke warm only.

So er, is this right? Or am I right to pause my food early?

Our current one is a Panasonic which I find gets quite hot, hotter than I expected. We had a Sharp before that which I found didn't get so hot. Keep her lit and enjoy your meal. :)

Err you are no longer bombarding the food purely with microwaves and instead you are using normal "heat"...
Expect it to get hot!

yea its normal! think about it the inside surface is supposed to be hitting 200 degrees so the outside that is only an inch or two away is bound to get hot !

from my expierience (of using them when our oven broke this time last year) they take longer than a normal oven to both heat up to temp and to cook because the lack of insulation makes them lose lots of heat out the sides/back/top/door

the genius of them is when you set them to microwave and convect at the same time
