Beef joint gone grey after defrosting.. is it safe?

Can't be that risky... Every supermarket in the country sells cooked rice which you heat up in the microwave. (And it isn't frozen).

Also I work at a college in the kitchen, and only 2 hours ago I was putting the leftover rice into tuppareware containers to be re-heated tomorrow.

The supermarket pre cooked rice is heavily washed and sterilised before cooking, removing or killing all the spores.

Food agency would not like that practice at all.

The risk must be tiny as so many of us do it, but people selling food have to obey strict rules.

Yeah, precooked is autoclaved (steam cleaned at massive temps) to kill the spores. I normally throw caution to the wind though, never have problems with my own home cooked rice.

get a few microbes in ya,builds up your system.

But, beware fish peoples. Only time I was really laid low, I mean like not just the morning after, but flattened, days, water only, lost a stone( thank you God) was fish from the front of my freezer. No one else to blame, just me.
When the sick is spraying out of your nose when yer chatting to
your visiting-soon-to-become-mother- in- law about her new dress whilst trying to raise yer head from the sick-encrusted pillow, thats a problem.

it even went in her handbag, which caused me to retch more, you can guess the rest.

Yea erm... Too much information for a Sunday night !

I can agree on the fish, Mr Herble. Any aquatic creatures need to be treated with care.

I have seen my Dad's missus go down in the space of ten minutes after eating a dodgy crustacean. Really pricey hotel in Austria as well.

Also a friend of mine ate a dodgy oyster at the Galway Guiness and Oyster Festival a few years back. An amusing story which I will try and keep brief:

Lots of Guiness was drunk. Lots of oysters were eaten. Walking back to hotel but it is a treck away. Friend says he feels ill. He nips into a hotel bathroom. Does not emerge for 20 minutes. My old man goes in to find him. He has collapsed on the floor and appears to have fallen on his face and pretty much knocked himself out cold whilst trying to sit on the pan. He has also sprayed vast amounts of a foul smelling black liquid all over the pan, the back wall, and the ceiling. My dad, to this day says it is the worst smell he has ever had to deal with.

His friend had to leave his pants in the pan. My Dad had to carry him back to the hotel and put him in the shower as he had **** smelly black liquid all over himself. He had to throw his clothes away as well. :D

No rice in it I hope - reheating rice is never safe.

I've heard this, but I've been rehating rice for years. Infact, fried rice is best with old rice and is how the experts (Chinese) suggest how to do it. I reckon it's a load of fuss about nothing, I've never got ill.
