As the title says,my case is on the floor, nowhere else for it to go
I have changed power button settings in Power Saving(Windows 7),still won't work, board is Asus P5Q Pro Turbo.
My lad presses the button and holds it in Pc is then switched off:mad:
Have looked in Bios and can't find anything, anybody any idea?
Thanks Steve

Pull fingers off . . . .

There will be a 2-pin plug on the motherboard, you can disconnect this. Its usually in the bottom right, and with a lot of other wires. You could wire up a second switch and connect it here instead!

Diconnect the switch as suggested. My P5Q has buttons on the mobo itself. Maybe you could use those but it means taking the side off when you want to press it.

I had a similar problem but my kids found it funny to turn the pc off at the mains plug. I overcame this game by supergluing the mains socket switch so it was always on :p

Awesome thread. I have a 1 year old who likes to put transformers inside my PC, place items down inside the port tubes at the back of my speakers and subwoofers, turn things on and off at the mains. I started with mains switch protection by buying these cheapo socket covers from ebay. With a bit of modification and strong fibre glass reinforeced tape, the mains switch problem is solved at the key points around the house.
Next the PC....you have three options:

1: Buy a case with a locakable door. I know, not ideal. I happen to have one but want to use a particular case with better airflow that does not have a door. See the next two options.

2: Disconnect the power on button all together and use the motherboard to turn the PC on if it has such a feature physically on the board with a switch.

3: Wire up the power on button to a secret location perhaps round the back of the PC or something like that. I'm about to do this on my current case and will make a thread when I do it.

@ op in the BIOS there is an option for what function holding the power button for 4 seconds does, just configure it to whatever is better.

under power?awm management or something similar (this is still ana sus bios but it may be different)

PC Jump Start

It is available in the UK, around a tenner, but I don't think OcUK stock them, or ever have.

Thanks for the replies, think a new button postioned somewhere else will be better,i'm sure i read ages ago that their was a setting in the Bios which had different options for the power button??,unless that was a option on older boards.

Artic, I posted telling you where that option is on my Asus board, so as such is probably in a similar place on your asus board....and I even put a link with a screeny

Cheers mate i started off writing a reply, had to break off for a minute posted my reply and then saw your answer,i've looked for that in Bios and it just has a option for Restore on Ac Power

good hiding on a regular basis imo,

flick his fingers hard when he goes to do it
then he will associate the activity with pain
therefore refrain

EASY way to sort this, your all getting to technical.

Unplug On/Off button. Turn bios to power on in power resume. When you want to turn the PC on flick the PSU switch off and on.

Modify the power button so that it gives an electric shock when pressed.

The kid will be scarred for life and forever scared of power buttons. But its a price worth paying to not have your PC turned off right? :D
