The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Do any of the OCUK corps live in Wormholes? I had a bit of a dabble middle of last year with them and it seemed a nice way to maximise my time in game and make some money. For the corp I was in, Class 3 seemed to be the sweet spot in efficiency terms.

I resubbed at the weekend and I'm just trying to decide what to do with myself.

Thanks for taking an interest in the ocuk corp, we appreciate the new faces, which ultimately makes the place a bit cosier and acts as a place where anyone can learn and get into/back into EVE.

Once you get in game, please visit the ocuk public channel, and you will need to speak to Dagejoor who is the current ceo of ocuk. Ocuk forms a corp as part of the OC-PS alliance (overclockers podpilot services) which will be rebooting up as the learning division within the alliance.

Apply for the corp by all means to get your name in the spotlight, however all applications need to be vetted by Dage himself, so be patient in the accepting of the corp. In the meantime advice will still be given to all that need it, so don't feel left out if you are only idling in channel at current.

The main focus outside of learning will be incursions in hisec, which is basically killing sansha as a very large fleet.

Anyhow, would love to blab more but i know this will get lost in the sea of posts, hopefully i will get to chat to some of you tonight.

As far as wormholes are concerned, the executor corp xenodus initiative which i'm a part of are wormhole based. Though to get into the corp we require you to perform well in some initiation tests just to make sure you are proficiently geared for wormholes.

Training a tests are done in hisec for the time being and we will move you if we know you'll do well and that you are comfortable.

Is their a real good dummies guide or something to eve online?

although im an experienced player, all the details of eve are difficult?

Hi sec,low sec etc? for instance.

I am keen to be "good guy" no mining style.

When you say good guy, as in Anti-Pirate?

/me hides all his kills of innocent carebears in T3s

What specifically are you looking for? The starter tutorials cover a load and I think give you a bit of an overview on high vs low security space. If not they'll definitely be some guides that can be found on google that will help you out on that issue.

If there are specific things you're after just ask away in here :)

Yes i'd like to be Anti pirate, what route should i take?

I just find all the details mesmerizing, i guess I just like to do a mission, gain points and money , upgrade and keep going like that without fussing over other stuff.

There are corps that specialise in anti pirating, but they are few and far between from corps that actually pirate.

I actually wanted to be an anti pirate when i first started, but the more i played the game, the more i realised that this was going to be nie on impossible, coz unlike pirating, anti pirating requires a hell of a lot of determination and willpower not to "go bad" and help people out who might not have been so sensible themselves.

You have miners residing in lowsec complaining about pirates, but the fact is they've agreed to go through into lowsec despite the risks on the gate warning. So it's very difficult to be an "anti pirate" in the true form, and i think the more you become an idealist of wanting to be one, the more frustrated you will become and the more likely you are to ragequit.

Also pirates that suicide gank or steal in hisec, realistically unless you;re very quick and on the ball, the only option you have is to wardec them, and more often than not these corps will have neutral buddies who will repair them and make it very difficult for you to kill them.

Sadly, there are no anti pirate corps in the ocuk alliance, we instead want members to actually become aware of it and learn how to avoid and counter it, because occasionally we do a gate camp ourselves or attempt to break one (small ones).

This probably sounds pretty terrible, but actually once you've grown used to the idea, i think you'll enjoy it, but of course these nullsec/lowsec pvp activities aren't done in the ocuk corp itself, so i wouldn't worry about being chucked in the deep end without knowing, unless we're undergoing a wardec.

The tutorials should get you running down that line pretty well. They'll take you through the basics of running missions, combat, navigation etc
You'll work up through to get some new ships during them (up to the best tier 1 frigate, and a hauler if I remember correctly)
Once you've gone through that you'll be able to work through other missions without an issue.

As to going Anti Pirate, you'll want to work up your combat skills and presumably decide on what your criteria for being someone being a pirate is. ie would it be someone who has killed someone for no reason? Someone who has ransomed a guy whilst holding him pointed? (think held hostage) or someone who just has a negative security rating?
I'm not really sure how you would go about playing it from a role play perspective really.

Ok so how about if you want to be reasonably good ?

These huge battle movies of big ships, are they just between corps etc? Thats what i really want to get into.

There is no reason why you can't try and play the good role. It just might be tricky to hold up full time. You can definitely try and only kill bad guys and stick up for people who are being picked on.
ie when you see people suicide ganking players in haulers, you could try and grab there loot and give it back to them as a friendly good gesture? Although you may end up just getting shot a lot yourself!

The big battles are between large alliances mostly, other groups might do it sometimes and it is definitely something you can work towards. You'll want to spend some time flying some different ships to get a feel of what you like first, ie do you want something fast? Max damage? A nice comprimise? Logistics? Stealth? etc...

Oh now that's completely different, that is nullsec alliances vs alliances for control of territory, control of which will yield untold fortune. Very laggy though.

Also some (not all) of the alliances have skills prerequisites for example in IT alliance, you need to be able to fly capitals at a minimum, which is probably about at the very least 20m sp just to practically sit in one and not flying it very well, to be able to shoot guns for sieging structures in a dreadnaught or provide logistics in a carrier, you will need a lot more sp ontop of that.

Always good to have something to aim for though, and everyone should experience nullsec at least once.

So here I am as an experienced MMO player ready to embark on eve online, want to be fairly nice guy out their and fly an equivalent battleship in the end.

So eve is broken into security areas I take it? do player alliances actually own space? what about the AI factions etc?

I just dont understand the mechanics of the eve world. who owns what? what rights do people have etc.

This is very simplified!

There are 4 main areas in Eve controlled by 1 of the 4 main factions :

Caldari
Gallente
Amarr
Minmatar

Each of these factions controls a large number of high security systems, the ratings of which are 0.5 > 1.0 (so 0.5|0.6|0.7|0.8|0.9|1.0).
These systems are policed by a faction called Concord, based in Yulai? They make sure that the law is adhered to, most of the time.

In these high security systems, you cannot legally be shot at or destroyed consequence free. If you choose to attack someone who you don't have the rights to attack, Concord will come and punish you. Basically. There are extra details regarding this.

Now surrounding these pockets of high sec space, in between the faction controlled space is a large amount of low security systems. rating 0.1 > 0.4.
These areas of space are, lets say, claimed by the 4 large factions, and fought over directly in some cases (see factional warfare). Some areas are claimed by smaller pirate factions.

In these low security systems there is no Concord presence in terms of ships to insta kill you, but there are sentry guns on the gates which will shoot at players unlawfully attacking other players.

However find yourself away from these guns, say at a planet or an asteroid belt etc. then players can quite happily shoot and kill you. The only consequence is their security standing decreases. I guess this is more akin to a threat level. The more unlawful people you kill the lower your standing to Concord I presume it is and past a certain point, -5.0 I believe you are attacked on site in the high security areas.

Low sec areas tend to see a lot of pirate corporations, they hunt people and kill them in low sec.

Null sec or 0.0 is as it says vast areas of systems with 0.0 rating. Meaning that none of the big 4 factions claim the area, although some 0.0 is owned by pirate factions.
There is no consequence at all for killing people in 0.0, no hit to standings, Concord never enter 0.0 it is lawless.

Which was the best part of Eve, 0.0 is entirely driven by human players. You can build outposts, star bases, empires, military installations more or less anything. However it sounds very open and cool, inevitably most of the areas are controlled by vast power blocs and it is very closed. If you turned up with a small bunch and planted yourself in a system somewhere. More than likely this would ruffle someone's feathers and a dozen capital ships would promptly be despatched to despatch you :) But that I guess can sometimes be the fun, surviving.

Many thanks Vader DSL

So when your a newbie, hang around your own faction space and when you want to do something (and remain a good guy) move to the null space?
