Possibly buying 2007 BMW 520d SE

@DiamondMark bad experience last time, don't fancy repeating it this time round.

You bought one ropey second hand car, honestly dont let that event push you into the arms of a main dealer and a lump of finance you dont need, thats just daft.

Well, either way it's going to need some finance, because I need to get rid of this car asap and can't afford outright. Finance on the 520 will be < £1500 over 3 years, not a huge amount. I enjoy driving, with regular 200 mile round trips to visit family, so I'd like something comfy and nice to drive. It's not like it's for an i10 or anything...

(was that too far?)

Its up to you of course but me i wouldnt jump from a cheapy to a 15k worth of finance just because of one bad experience. Everyone has bought a ****er of a car, iv bought loads, it happens.

Why not chop the dog mondeo in against a 5k something and use that as the deposit and borrow 4k, that way if there's ever a problem you aint got a problem.

Large hatches/saloons :) It's not just the miles, I fancy a turbo d this time round. The long journeys I do would make it worthwhile too. It has to carry a fair bit of guitar/pa kit every so often too.

A decent late Mondeo/ Mondeo estate then, dont let one bad car put you off.

I would at least let a bad mondeo put me off mondeos :p thats understandable....

But I wouldn't let it put me off ~£5k used car market. :)

Dont go loading yourself with debt just because you do 'long journeys'

Im struggling to think of a decent 5k diesel with plenty of room without resorting to a Saab and the Fox backlash ;) Can you think of one?

I was going to say Saabb as it happens! But I'd be happy with a VAG estate myself... maybe such as this; http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...radius/1501/postcode/yo612ns/page/1?logcode=p Thoughts? For someone that was considering BMW running costs it would seem anythings fair game.

I'm a Volvo man myself but before I would recommend one I would want to know more about the op's intended yearly mileage and usage.

Just fyi, I live in Belfast ni, which has a crappy choice of used cars on a good day! Yearly mileage is usually bout 11k give or take, usage ranges from just me and my wife to 2 guitar nuts, each with kit weighing nearly as much as themselves! (usually long journeys like this).

Right here is my Mark tip for the day.

Travel lodge in Liverpool to widen the choice, then when you tell me that you are up for it, i'l pick you an Autotrader winner :)

Me and thepeteh will steer you right :)

It is great for £200. You'd struggle to buy half a Jesus Phone 4 for that.

I don't personally think price makes something great on its own. Do you fancy a holiday in Blackpool for a tenner? Great value but its still a crap place for a holiday.

His car is great value. Thats where the great ends.

I liked Blackpool when I went there! :o

Admittedly I didn't stay over night there. :D
