Hoping someone can help a graphics card noob here.

I've decided to get a new graphics card and after doing some research decided to go for the HD5670, as it seems like the best card in my budget range. I'm not after major PC performance, and I know with the rest of my spec it should suit my needs.

The problem i'm facing now working out which model of the card to get. I've set my budget around £80 (i'm UK based) and there are plenty of alternatives but I can't work out which 1GB one to go for.

There's a difference of about £20 and I can't tell what it's exactly due to. I found this review of the PowerColor card and itseems pretty positive.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or help,

thanks.

I suggested the 5750 over a 5770 because the 5750 is just about capable of running off the power from the pci-e slot alone and the extra pci-e power lead is really only need to ensure stability. In essence any psu able to supply a 5670 is almost certain to be enough to handle a 5750.

If the OP has any decently branded psu (i.e. Corsair, Antec, Enermax, Coolermaster, OCZ, Seasonic) of 350W and above it will be fine to run a 5750.

I would have thought that the wording at the hwcompare site explained why the 5750 is superior to the 5670 as would also the rate of Shader Operations or Pixel Fill rates shown at gpureviews.

If the OP will post what the wattage is of his current PSU and what the make of it is we will be able to tell if it will handle the 5750. Also what is the screen size and resolution used.

Thanks for the info guys.

My current PSU is 400W, but not one of those brands you've mentioned.

From a site I don't think I can mention (it was *** out in my first post) i've found a Sumvision PowerX2 700W PSU, that if bought with a Sapphire HD 5750 Vapor-X comes to £116, which i'm happy to spend for the two.

My thinking is that my PSU probably isn't the best for a 5670 anyway, so if i've got to buy a new one I might as well bump up to a 5750 as well.

Pretty much - go for it.
But check out the brand of the PSU out first.Try posting in the PSU forum and looking for reviews. Haven't heard of them before - have a look before buying

Ouch, I just did and there was one thread saying to avoid it.

Anyone able to recommend a PSU that will be able to handle the 5750, as i've read it needs a 600W with the PCI-E cable.

cheers.

Thanks. Sorry this a completely noob question but the whole watts thing is confusing me. AMD on their site say the 5750 needs 600W, but then i'm reading in other places that I should ignore the watts and get a known brand like the Corsair.

Dunno which is the right thing??

That PSU would power my 4870.

It's fine for the card you're getting.

AMD and Nvidia are probably covering themselves so the rating you're seeing will be for a cheap 600watt PSU. Corsair and the brands mentioned above by VFM Addict are a lot more efficient combined with quality made parts.

Edit* In fact, after reading this review of the PSU http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page17755.htm I would advise to get something a little better.

The Corsair 400w is a better build quality and it seems as if Corsair have skipped more than a few things with this new PSU. :(

This doesn't change what I said before about AMD/Nvidia speccing the PSU too high to cover themselves. It just so happens that the PSU in question hasn't got the best review. Would it power that 5750?, absolutely. I'd rather your money was spent on something that would last longer but that's my opinion :).

If you're planning to upgrade again before the warranty period of the Corsair 430w (2 years) runs out then I'd go for it. If however there is something around the same price give or take a few pounds then I'd get the more quality part.

Good luck.
