Anyone got an N8, and if so, do you like using it/how are you finding Symbian^3?

My work phone is an N8. Great camera/reception/battery life but lousy browser. The rest is pretty the same as S60 has always been.

its great as a phone/camera, if your looking for something to play games on and mess about with get android.

if you want a smart looking professional "phone", then n8 ticks all the right boxes. put it this way, the only time i pick my phone up in the house is when it rings. i have a pc and other gadgets to do other stuff on. why would i want to use the internet on my phone when i have a pc in every room?

the new update has improved the browser and some other things, but the major update will be in a month or two. i only wish they had released this with android, it would have been an iphone killer.

now its just a phone phone, if you know what i mean, if you need a phone get the n8, if you need a gadget get something with android.

battery life is very good, sat nav is amazing, you have to be moving for it to start working though, i figured this out whilst testing, you cannot stand still and use it. camera is too good in my fiancées words, you can see every little detail. touch screen is also very good, it works with gloves on, something which my ipod touch cannot do.

I went to fix a machine at a customer the other day and this chap had one. " I said why did you get an N8 and what is so great about it?"

I told him about about symbian been dated and rather dead in the water:eek:

So I said "show me what your phone can do"

He then plugged in a usb stick into his phone via an adapter and said "can your HTC do that"

I said "WOW"..................then walked away lol had to make him feel good.

All that lets the N8 down is Symbian, would have been the phone of choice on android.

What about when you are on the toilet :p,
for me a camera/video camera is what I look for but I also want something I can use on the internet when I am out for example, with mates in a pub and need to look something up so a good browser is needed, the N8's doesn't even compare to the browser on the Hero for example.

I have a N8 its been a great buy for me runs flawless no need to worry about the naff internet browser as i have opera mobile installed

A couple of the lads who work for me have got them and to be honest they are nowhere near as bad as the reviews made them out to be.

Browser is awful yes but Opera solves that.

However 2 things would put me off permanantly:

1: No qwerty keyboard in portrait mode
2: The gash in built e-mail software.

I also dont like Symbian's way of dealing with differing methods of connectivity for browsing etc but thats a personal thing really.

However it feels nice in the hand, its built well, screen is bright, the phone is responsive and the camera is jaw dropping.

I was hoping to get a free one from the Nokia developer programme. Not heard back from them though for some reason ;-)

iirc Android can't actually do that (and it would be handy!)

Well, I'm able to acquire one quite cheaply (32GB brand new in Orange, which I think is nice for a snazzy change) and thought I might use it when I need a decent camera and cant be bothered taking a proper one. Like on Holiday for example.

If I dont like it, I'll just sell it in future.

I know the software is 'showing its age' at best, but as long as it covers the majority of things I need to do quite well it wont really bother me. And there does seem to be a decent enough functional browser which is nice.

I ordered a Nokia N8 in orange on monday delivered today but i was out, getting it tomorrow!!! :)

PR 2.0 will add a portrait qwerty keyboard and a newish interface, and an updated browser.
I've also read that SPB mobile shell is very good for making the interface more android like - smoothing it out and adding an overall nicer interface however i like the normal one also. The camera is great and just the look and feel of the phone is very good. When i was deciding what phone to buy some of the HTC's just felt to tacky. I don't really like the tile UI in WP7 - no background or any customiation. My second choice would have been the palm pre 2 or desire s but the cameras arent as good, no hdmi or fm transmitter - useful for road trips and they arent in orange!
Cannot wait for tomorrow!

Is that a 32GB model Swiftlegend? - Nevermind, just noticed the 32GB is the 16GB plus a 16GB SD Card. Not bothered about that really as I've got loads of SD cards :p

I'm pretty tempted to get the N8 in orange. The orange is a nice change to the boring greys and blacks across the board these days and the coming software update seems like it will make the phone a bit better to use.

If I dont like it, then fair enough and I'll hold onto it until the iPhone 5 is out. :)

I like the idea of this phone.... but couldn't be without android any more! Why can't more android phones have a decent camera? My N95 8GB had a great camera for a phone!

My brother in law bought an N8... then promptly sold it to his mum cos he prefered his iPhone 3Gs lol

He bought an iPhone 4 and promptly sold it cos it prefered his 3Gs too...

(I think he may have a soft spot for the 3Gs)
