Turbos and cooling down

Can't say I think 70c is enough personally but fair enough. Mine takes a good 4-5miles to get up to temperature, obviously depending on traffic conditions etc!

The VAG turbos are water cooled with a pump that runs when the engine is off to keep the coolant flowing they had this before the stop/start cars. My friend's 2001 Ibiza Cupra has one so they have been about for a while.

even the 2.0 TFSI ?

I've got Golf GTI MK5 and i've never heard anything that sounds like water
circulating around it ?

I just double checked and it does going by the parts diagram it is just before the thermostat on the coolant feed to the turbo. I have never heard it on mine either but you couldn't hear it on my friend's 1.8T until it was starting to fail.

I didn't know this either!! I suppose it makes sense, although I have never heard it at all, even popping the bonnet when the engine is clearly very warm!

Zddp only really starts to work at 80C.

As for turbos, convection circulation in the water system will help avoid heatsoak, this is the primary reason for the coolant on a turbo. The oil does most of the cooling in the bearing, and airflow does a good job on the housing. If you drive off boost for the last few mins of journey and allow 20-30 seconds of idling this is fine.

Oil does have an effect on turbos, the less VM the better
