just to add to my previous post about country's saying 1 thing and doing another

" Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has condemned the Western intervention in Libya, saying it is aimed at "getting their hands on its oil", and that Iran supports the Libyan rebels, reports AFP."

Iran can **** off to.

Correct,we have 12 subs in the meditation at that moment with no missiles left.

Seems like the Arabs are backtracking on what they've said and talking more in line with Nato now.

Most will have come from the US.

Also on the subject of how much it costs etc do you think that all 120 would have been maid and paid for since the conflict started?.....no. they will be stock piled, will the be replaced? at the moment who knows.

so people can stop bitching about the cost of missiles atm.

+1

We should leave them all to get on with it. Once the oil has run out no one will care about them anyway.

It is quite smart though by our government - sell them a load of military equipment, blow it up, sell them more equipment.

Cameron showed he was a fool by getting in early and supporting one side before the outcome became clear.

We won't get a chance to sell them equipment for a long time. I forsee the Russians or especially the Chinese giving him some equipment then getting the oil contracts when Gadaffi kicks out UK/US firms.

The Arab league seemed to have believed that 'no fly zone' meant exactly that, not a licence to bomb ground forces. With discontent in a lot of Arab countries at present they will not want problems with anti-western riots.

You don't say Perhaps thats to do with the two ships they have in the meditation for this purpose....

Also, i'll talk about what the heck i like, don't like it don't read it.

What is so bad about Iran?

In any given year the UK budget will hold an allowance for war - if that allowance gets spent then so be it, if it does not then it gets carried forward.
The money for those missiles likely came out of the UK taxpayers pockets years ago.

Additionally - let's not forget that there's every chance the US UK and French will have some sort of compensation towards their costs via the UN.

Can't we just send in a few plane loads of ******, the threat of caravans on every street corner should be enough for them to give in.

Bonus if we get some money from the UN per head, it's a win win situation.......

Anyone up for a trip to the Nevada desert?....

Before you get too excited you do know how many of those we fired don't you?

I made it clear that the costs were not all ours in the post, did you not read it correctly?

Even if only 5% were British that still works out at $4536000 for one nights pointless pyrotechnics against what is in effect a third world country. Money we don't have if you listen to our leaders moaning, and thats just the cost of the Tomahawk missiles the cost of flying tornados back and forth night after night dropping expensive munitions will be equally mind boggling.

I would have no qualms with the money being spent if this was all part of a reasoned and consistent plan but it's simply not. We ignore far worse crimes taking place all over the world yet we can't resist Libiya I hate to say it but it dose look like oil guarentees an intervention.

We are engaged in yet another war we have no hope of winning, if we do somehow manage to remove the Libiyan Leadership past experience tells us (Iraq, Afghanistan) that who ever replaces them will be pretty much useless and if we don't interceed with peace keeping troops on the ground they will continue to kill each other for a generation.

"According to Wiki a Tomahawk missle costs $756,000, according to the news we and the Americans fired 120 of the things on the first day of the 'No Fly Zone' total cost to British and US tax payers $90720000 and thats just those missiles on that day."

We fired 2x missiles from a sub on the first night, so no transport costs, 8 shadow storm missiles from GR4's at a running cost of £220,000 per plane per day + Shadow Storm costs, then a few cruise missiles from a sub lastnight.

I don't care what other nations spend nor how much they fire, doesn't cost the UK tax payer a penny.

If he wants to talk / moan about it then so be it, it's not up to you to come into a thread and decide what we can and can't talk / moan about.

where on earth did i do that?! i too made a valid point, that you have just reiterated?! sweet jesus some people!

all of gaddafis assets seized in the uk will no doubt cover the cost of the war, as i dont see how goverment handing hundreds of millions over to the rebels if they take power and if gaddafi stays in we will keep all his stuff anyway

Very valid point, i've got no idea if we can sell / spend these assets.
