VEGAS!

Hehe I know Fox its just the way you went about it :) no need to be so abbrasive!

Ive actually looked around and the cheapest I can find a Mustang Convertible for, in and around Vegas, is the price Ive got, collision damage waiver is $21.50/day and the Liability is $29.90/day, will work out at about $130 for the car for the day + more for extra milage, we are figuring roughly $300 for the day, including petrol costs.

$150 each for an amazing drive to the Grand Canyon and back isnt bad surely?

I had a look on Hertz and they were asking for $150 for the Mustang Convertible for pickup in Vegas.

Check netflgihts.com and pre-purchase a coupon, it'll save you a lot of money. Even though I live in the USA. I always take advantage of having a UK drivers license whenever I rent a car. ;)

To be honest, if is your first time and you're only there for six days. I wouldn't bother driving to the Grand Canyon. It's not like it is going anywhere, just go next time.

I'd go for me it was the highlight of our stay in Vegas and given a whole planet to explore I doubt I will ever go back! Of all the places round the world I've been Vegas itself wasn't in the top 10 for me. Unless your really into the gambling and 'style' of the place then it really is nothing special, not saying I didn't enjoy it as I did but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

It's not been mentioned on this thread but for the benefit of the OP I'd highly recomend catching one of the cirque shows they are truly amazing.

Nonsense. We are in April. The weather is perfect there right now. Mid 20's max during the peak of the day.

Actually I'd say that is the most essential part of the road trip.

Thats perfectly hot enough to burn you to a crisp if you sit in it for 12 hours! All down to personal preference I guess but I was glad of the hardtop and don't remember passing many people with the roof down on the highway! Top down would have been nice on the strip though I'll give you that.

definitely do the grand canyon its amazing. When i went we did the Helicopter ride to the baste which was really good. 1- It was the first time i had been in a helicopter and 2- Having lunch in the grand canyon is something special.

I would love to do the trip in a car but not sure i would want to do a day trip out of it would definitely consider going for 2 days. As mentioned previously you will be wrecking the other nights in Vegas due to early start etc and Vegas is at it's best in the night.

Thanks thedoc46 :D I will check all that out!

Id say the car for me has to be a convertible! It just wouldnt be the same otherwise :) (always have the option of putting the soft top up surely?)

I would really like to spend a more than a day but we cant :/, but we have to see the canyon when we are there, not sure when I will be able to afford this all again!

Alex I doubt the return journey would be 4pm-11pm?!? 7 hours? Nah :)

Even we we didnt get back till 10 Im not overly botherd, our flight isnt till late afternoon/early evening on the Saturday, so that gives us 1 last night of partying before we go :)

I can sleep when Im dead! (or on the plane)

.

they don't allow helicopters to fly to the bottom of the Grand Canyon only at the West Canyon

Think that needed a horses for courses disclaimer, a lot of people will be 'done' with Vegas after 4 nights but then there are those like yourself who are really into it and will prbably never be 'done' with it!

Closest I've come to finding the sort of spiritual home you seem to have found in Vegas was the North Shore of Oahu it was truly amazing, somewhere I would settle in a heatbeat and I can hardly even surf!

I was just about to say the same thing, I think the rules actually now say that the helicpoter cannot go below the rim allthough I'm sure some do. It's also worth pointing out that they are noisey uncomfortable horrible things!

Yeah Im not sold on the helicopter thing, Ive been in a chopper before and altho it was quite cool, I imagine flying close to the grand canyon in one would **** me right up :S

Ive been checking out differant car rental places, and looked on the netflights.com sight that was mentioned.

Seems we can hire the same car, with unlimted milage, full tank of fuel and gps, for £48 for the day :O

Only downside is it needs to be picked up/dropped off at the airport?

If there's one place and one place only in the world that you should do a helicopter ride.. It's in the Grand Canyon.

I was nervous at first, ESPECIALLY when I realized the pilot was a WOMAN !!!!!:eek: but calmed down once in the air. You have headphones on so you do not hear the sound of the copter. Only the music they play and the pilot pretending to still be enthusastic, doing the same thing day in day out. I rememeber her saying this part makes me go in awe everytime.. Yeah, sure, maybe the 1st 50 times eh luv !

Do you like to gamble when your're there? Silly question really.

My missus got upset with me for NOT spending any money on the tables.

Yup I'll be the first to admit that was pretty boring of me, to say the least, but the way I look at it, was I was on the up by breaking even, unlike the 75% of people that leave Vegas worse off than they arrived.

Yeah tbh Im not a big gambler!
Ill have a go but the majority of my money will be spent sampling the various eateries, going to the canyon and the shooting range ^^
